Construction Bataillon: deceipt units ?

Post by gladiatt »

Playing agaisnt jap AI , in stock.
I'me bombing out of hell japs positions in many place: kendari, saipan, legaspi.
Each time i make a ground attack on place where there are a construction battaillon, the attack aim at those units, totaly disregarding other "usefuls" targets such as brigades or base force...and with poor results.
Sometimes, it's 200 hundred planes that attack this bataillon...for no loss or maybe 10 casualties.
My landing in Saipan was terrific, and the ground attack made before and after the landing always painfully aim at the construction bat'.
WHAT can i do to avoid this???

Does the jap AI manage to disguise these units in "dangerous" targets ?
It's a bit annoying (well, just enough to wonder if i could scream and shout [8|] )

well, i'm not sure it would solve this problem ! [&:]

It would scare me to play versus a human opponant who could use Construction Batt as bomb magnet and so avoiding any bombing on his combat unit ...

Hu ??[&:]
I'm not sure we are understanding ...

The only thing i'm complaining about at this time is the "poor" choice of target, and the systematic aiming at Construct Batt rather than real combat unit.
OR maybe you find it a nasty and funny trick for your Allied opponant when they bomb construct batt rather than your combat unit....
And i'm not sur playing versus a human change this, it's about game mechanics, not about strategy.

Gladiatt,
Not very helpful advice, but I'll commiserate with you. I've had numerous 200+ plane strikes elect to pound the hell out of base forces and CBs while ignoring perfectly good divisions in the same hex. I've tried a few different things, morning/evening, multiple strikes from different bases - doesn't seem to matter - the target always seems rather random. And FYI, I'm playing PBEM. It makes no difference whatsoever as far as this problem is concerned, but I'm guessing you already knew that part. Good luck with the bombing anyway, and hope you get luckier - Alex.

Thanks !
I think i would make sure that, when a force surrender, each captured men of a "deceipting" construction battallion would be launch tied to the bombs of the next air raid !![:D][;)]

Could this just be an instance of "Fog of War"? I have noticed that on my bombing raids of Rabaul that Mexico Maru takes many hits, time and time again, and only the Mexico Maru. How many hits could one cargo ship take?

already seen this too.
One cargo took nearly 38 bombs in Amboine port before sinking....The crew must have repaired it really fast between each raid...or it had been grounded on a beach to help the ship survive ? [&:]
Also, Yamato took 325 hits of 500lb and 23 hits of 1000lb in Truck before sinking...but that's a warship.

About Fog of war: i have now landed on saipan, where one of this construction battaillon is (with 6 jap div, 9 brigades, and a bunch of base and HQ[X(]). So the fog of war should be reduce....and my bombers still aim at the 51st construction bataillon (it should became my most hatred ennemy unit !!).

Targeting BF, construction battalion and HQ units are usefull in the long run. Disrupted Support squads= no support for combat squads = lesser disruption and fatigue recovery = combat troops less effective.

In my current PBEM I have 4 HQs over stack of 15 Chinese corpses. While the first chinese corps was in pretty good shape after enemy attack, HQs went very quickly from 200-300 support squads to 0 ready.

This business of the construction squads taking first damage is an artifact of the game mechanics... Generally (but not always) HQs often are the first to get hit, then the ancillary stuff (Eng, AA, Art), and then close Combat units (inf, armor) going from the lowest ID to the highest...

If you look at units that have been in combat a long time, the close Combat units on the left of the unit listing (when you click on a base) are the ones that are most beaten up... you can change this by dividing a unit, which makes the ID number higher so it will get a chance to recover (assuming the unit CAN be divided.)

I've often seen the LBA attack whatever ground unit is listed at the top for that base in particular, and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.  So, if a construction battalion is at the top of that base's list, it will absorb all the bombs and shield the others from getting hit.  I think naval bombardments are more effective in spreading the damage around, but the "top of the list" issue also applies to recon flights too.  You can fly recon forever, think there's only construction and garrison troops there, then invade and find out there's an infantry brigade there that they somehow missed.
