Real Copy?

Post by MeatballCB »

Hey guys,

Been looking for a game I can PBeM with some friends around the world and stumbled across WaW. I found a "new" copy of it on eBay and purchased it.

I was just about to install it when I came by the site and wanted to check the patches but see the game is discontinued. But I look at the box it looks a bit different than the picture on the site, having a few different award emblems on it. Also it shows 2008 next to the Matrix Publishing LLC copyright.

Did Matrix keep making these into 2008? I don't want to install some bogus game and put a Trojan on my machine.

Thanks!!!

The game was discontinued quite awhile ago now (maybe 2 years now?). There were copies of the game available for some time after it was discontinued so maybe you have a legit copy. On the other hand, we found this game was illegally being produced and sold on EBAY from practically the day it was released (in 2005?). Those copies did not provide a registration number, so there was no way for those customers to upgrade their game with the various patches that were released. Does your copy have a registration number that must be entered when installing the game? This game was also licensed and sold in Europe and Japan, so it's also possible that you have a European copy of the game, but I don't think they are still producing the game. The fact that you say the packaging says c2008 makes it sound like it's an illegal copy since I don't know of anyone still producing the game. My suggestion is that you buy A World Divided from Matrix (this month it's 30% off due to the holiday sale). It's the official sequel that most players have moved onto.
All understanding comes after the fact.
