Hi Japan,

T's answer makes great sense given that AE does not even exist!  [:D]

Seriously, the AE team took a large set of ideas and then selected many ideas to be incorporated into AE.  The project has taken lots of time already, and there just isn't any chance of new ideas being added.

But, for the fun of the discussion, why would you want such a feature?  I don't think LCUs in WITP are any more vulnerable to air attack when they are moving than when they are not.

Well, first of all the Air Power vs Ground Troops in WITP is hugely overpowered i think,  so is Shore Bombardment vs Ground Troops.
I dont know why thay programmed it like this, but IMHO this aspect of the game is not so well programmed^^
The Good thing about it, is that it works both ways, meaning both players play with same game mecanich conditions.

In the Realety  its my understanding that Tactical Bombers didn't realy have a huge effect on ground troops.  Thay prevented movement in day time, and redused the logistical aspects (supply effectivety), time it takes to travel, and disrupted lines of comunication.   BUT thay did not kill very many soldiers, and did not kill very many vehclas.   The CAS - Close Air Support units like Dive Bombers ect would be far more accurate in destroying vehcales ect,  but reguler JU88, H111, B25, B26, and evan B24, B17,  ect ect did not realy "kill" many ground troops. In this game however, you can more or less "kill" a unit with many bombers,  that would not be possible IRL.  My Granpha (Olav) and his brother (Hans Erik) fought in WW2,  my Granpha for the Allies and his brother for the SS.

Hans Erik, who was a young Leutanant in the Norwegan army untill 3rd May 1940, then he was a civilien a few months... who he and his political opinions did not like very much, so in January 1941 he volunteered from the then occupied Norway and into a local Security unit (under the SS), and then shortly after he transfered into SS-Panzergrenadier-Regiment Nordland (Under SS Wiking), he served on the east front a year, but was due to his combat preformance, experience and language skills (and aiganst his will) transfered to command a company part of 10.SS-Panzer Frundsberg, were he opperated in France and Nederland.

He personaly have endured  German Bombing (As Norwegan soldier in 1940), Soviet Bombing (On East front) and Allied Bombing in 1944/45.
During the Market Garden Operation he endured especialy much bombing.  It is his opinion  (whatever it is worth)  that "Tactical and Strateagical Aircrafts have only a marginal effect on land troops"  he also think that "the larger the aircraft, the less the effect on ground troops".  For me his oppinion is worth alot because i knew him very well (he is now unfortenetly dead) but told me alot of his oppinions and experiences. If he could decide he would be serving untill he eventualy died, but the Allied victory in 1945 prevented him.

Those situations are very hard on families. The US civil war had many such examples of family division.

Well, thay were 3 Brothers and 1 Sister.

The (at the time) "father" in the Famely was a member of the NS, the Norwegan Natzi Party.
Of his 3 sons, 2 of them Joined the SS and 1 of them "escaped" from home when his father informed the local pro-german police that he had stolen and dumped into the sea a German military car, when he escaped from home he had no plase to go, and after a short criminal cariere he eventualy ended up with some farmers in the local woods, and eventualy "on the allied" side as a partisan. The Sister becomed a "true pacifict", and after WW2 becomed a nurce.
Of the 3 brothers, 2 of them survived WW2, and both got sevral medals, but medals from oppositing sides. Thay never talked ever aigan. In his funural for some years ago, sevral old men camed, at first no one knew who thay were, or why thay comed, but from a descrite courner in the church thay saluted him, and when taking a closer look one could see german medals on thair cheasts.

Bombardment and air attacks on troops has changed from stock.  Don Bowen (naval) or michaelm (air) could go into the differences better than I can.

Land units can also move in different modes.  If they are in strategic move mode, they are most vulnerable to air attack.  If they are doing normal movement, they have some vulnerability, but less than strategic move.  You need to be in strategic move mode to take advantage of rail movement and to move in standard transport TFs.  Amphibious TFs carry troops in combat mode, but you don't want to use that to move troops between friendly bases.

A unit can also move in combat mode.  They move much slower in this mode, but the unit is prepared for combat at any moment and they are the lease vulnerable to air attack.  They are also prepared if an enemy unit moves into their hex during the move phase.

So while night move is not an option, there are options to make your unit less vulnerable to air attack.

de facto its in

move in combat mode halves movement rate and reduces damage from air attack.

movement mode allows normal movement but leaves units exposed to air attack
