How in the HECK do Air Strikes work?

Post by Glubber »

I've played around to day 7 as the Americans. I was salivating, waiting for air strikes. Everybody knows from history that it was the devasting impact of the allied air strikes that slowed down the Nazi advance. So here I am, waiting, and FINALLY the air strikes slow up.

I select one for one of my besiegned BGs that is in the fight of it's life with peashooters, (shermans) against Tiger IIs and Panthers. Click on the air support, put the icon on an IMMOBILE tank that a heroic bazooka team spent their lives on immobilizing, and the plane flies by and....nothing.

Read the manual and learned that various planes are available. Didn't matter WHAT model of plane. I would pop the flare on the tank and NOTHING. I've tried eight TIMES and haven't even scratched the paint on those things.

So HOW IN THE HECK does air support work? Do you pop the flare a little in front of the tank, behind it, on it? The dang air strikes are USELESS! Had more luck using arty strikes to at least immobilize the tanks![:@]

Are you patched

What version?

Do all planes not fire their weapons or just a particular one?

P51 only has MG's so won't hurt Tanks

P47/38 have heavier weapons.

Ran through every airstrike today and they all operated correctly.

Did the plane fly past?

Did it fire or drop bombs  and miss?

When the aircraft first appears on the screen but before it gets to its target. Hit the "a" key to arm the bombs. Otherwise the air strike is quite useless.

Place your smoke, of course, right on top of the target. Just make sure you use the green smoke. (i.e. NOT the yellow smoke)

that would be ctrl-Alt-shift-A

After you Tab-Del-End-L  (to Load bombs)

Does your keyboard have a "sleep" button for when you get tired?
