Sam Mudd's North African Campaign

Post by Zaratoughda »

I posted something on this a while ago.... a nice scenario with many units at the divisional level making it not that big... and a neat cease fire rule that comes into play early. But, the scenario is unplayable as the Italians vs the PO Commonwealth because Elmer.... will move his units forward in such a fashion that they are exposed to being surrounded, put out of supply, and eliminated. I posted this and someone else posted that they had the same experience.

Now, looking at the PO AI options in the manual.... there is the Attack order (exactly the same as the Defend order as far as I can tell) but then there is the Advance order and the Secure/Screen order (again, no difference between these two as far as I can tell).

The thing here.... neglect the names of these orders that is moot... but as far as what is said in the manual, it is the Secure/Screen order that has units advance in such a fashion... that they are not exposed to being put out of supply and eliminated.

At least that is what I read in the manual.... have to try it out to see if this is indeed what we are talking about here.

If so, what this means is if you change all the CW formations' orders from Attack to Secure.... this scenario might indeed be playable and if so then a lot of fun.

So, I copied the scenario over to another name and changed all the CW land units' orders to Secure (all had the Attack order except one which had Advance... a more extreme attack order than Attack).

Now, I am hoping to get some time to try this out... and that remains to be seen but... thought I'd post here in case anyone else wanted to give this a try or post their comments.

P.S. If the Secure order works as stated might be applicable to a LOT of scenarios... Elmer otherwise has this problem of letting his units get put out of supply and eliminated.
