Indian flag

Gary Grigsby’s World at War is back with a whole new set of features. World at War: A World Divided still gives complete control over the production, research and military strategy for your side, but in this new updated version you’ll also be able to bring spies into the mix as well as neutral country diplomacy, variable political events and much more. Perhaps the largest item is the ability to play a special Soviet vs. Allies scenario that occurs after the end of World War II.

Indian flag

Post by WanderingHead »

Hi all.

One thing I had wanted to do with the "Indian uprising" event in Global Glory was to have India become a neutral (biased Axis to give resources to Japan) instead of surrendering regions to Japan. This strikes me as more historically likely.

The recent talk about minor-nation unit capability penalties and displaying national flag icons prompted me to think about this again. I think it is nice if Indian units are differentiated and are assigned the minor penalty. And by differentiating, the units can be removed when the uprising occurs.

Question: what flag should be used for India? I wanted to avoid any British imperial flag, since this is also supposed to represent India as an independent entity.

Here's an example of the kind of British imperial flag I was trying to avoid:

Here's what I ended up using, the flag adopted in 1947 (kind of ahistorical for 1940 but ...):

See the image (note: while I was at it, I changed the production screen code to show national flags sorted by national Factory Multiplier - more intuitive than the current arbitrary order - kind of neat in that USA starts off to the right [not very significant] then moves to the left).

Looks great to me! Certainly is as plausible as any other option.....

I like it too, I'd say that this flag could have been adapted in 1940 instead of 1947 already.
