Australian Resource/Oil Question

Post by Dereck »

I remember reading in previous posts that resources/oil won't move by rail (don't remember if always or just due to distances in Australia).

Anyways my question is: Is there any benefit to shipping resources/oil from say Adelaide to Sydney by cargo vessel or would it make no difference at all?

Thanks

I think i've read somewhere that it depends on distance so from Perth or Darwin to the east coast. I think stock is the only scenario with a rail link from Darwin, I'm playing CHS with no rail from Darwin so you have to ship it.

I know I'm going to have to ship it but what I really want to know is whether it's worth the shipping tonnage to ship oil/resources from ports in Australia to other Australian ports.

I see no reason to ship oil or resources between Australian ports.  At the start of the war, I dump oil "rescued" from the DEI in Perth and Brisbane.  After that, all I have had to do is to bring some oil to Oz from the USA.  (Stock)

I've often argued in the past that, with the exception of saving oil from the DEI, it's just not worth shipping oil and resources to Oz. Just use the massive amounts of Allied shipping to keep Oz supplied from India and the west coast. However, I think this applies more to stock. In CHS I think it might be worth using the Australian HI to make supplies.

In CHS it is worth moving the oil that is needed to use the res that are produced in Oz particularly early on when supplies are in such dire need.
