So why should I buy CC: WaR?

Post by esteban »

I used to own pretty much all the old Close Combat series, including Market Garden, Russian Front, Battle of the Bulge and Normandy. However, over time the games got dated. I also found that the AI was way too easy to beat.

So what are the reasons for a former Close Combat fan to buy Wacht am Rhein or the new Russian Front game? What's genuinely better about the new game and how good is real-time player vs. player on the internet? Is there a good base of players to play head to head?

COI compared to CC3 offers minimal enhancements/fixes;
- new campaign included with the old/original

WAR compared to CC4/CC5 has a number of enhancements;
- AI battle/soldier is improved
- AI path finding is improved
- BG’s that are motorized can not move when out of fuel
- BG’s retreat if there is an unoccupied friendly map they can get to instead of disbanding
- Increased number of BG’s and maps increased
- New campaign included with the old/original
- Mod making has been made easier. A lot of the files have been changed to text files and some settings that could not be edited before now can be. Also mods can be added now without replacing the original game files.
- Stability is the same as CC4 but increased compared to CC5 (Atomic never released a fully tested patch for CC5 before closing their doors)

The AI changes are tweaks and for some these changes are still not enough but it is better...
