Merging TFs ??

Still plugging away on the tutorial. At the start of the allied turn I am instructed to form a transport TF, load the 2nd USMC div aboard and set off for Saipan. Later, I am instructed as follows:

"Action - Form a Transport TF using the ships below and set the TF to follow the first troop transport.

Transport TF
• AGC Rocky Mount
• Patrol/Do not retire
• Load the 5th Amphibious HQ
• Merge this TF into the 2nd Marine Division TF"

I cannot see any way to merge one TF into another. Am I overlooking something?

Yes.

1. Find the TF with the 2nd Mar; access it (click on it, bring it's display up).
2. Hit the "transfer ships to/from TF
3. Find the Rocky Mount (either scroll, sort alpha, or sort TF #)
4. Click on Rocky Mount and ouila!

It's a pain transferring many ships, especially with troops; you will eventually work out the best way for forming muti-unit transport groups. Generally, I make small TF's sized to handle a particular land unit; when all loaded up, merge them all together and then transfer in any escorts desired.

It's been a while since I did the tutorial but something in what you wrote got me thinking.

To merge two TFs they have to be in the same hex (obviously), If the TF with 2USMC Div has already set off for Saipan then could that be your problem?
If both TFs are in the same hex then tabpub's notes will work a treat.
