Can't See Combat Animations

Post by Dereck »

During the first game turn (December 7th) I was able to see combat animations (bomb hits and smoke coming from ships) but on the subsequent turns there are just the pictures of ships and then messages saying bomb hit but no smoke.

What gives? I've never had this happen but it's been happening for the entire game so far since the initial turn. Show combat animations is ON so why can't I see the bomb hits and smoke (which I've ALWAYS seen before up until now).

I started this game over again this morning and I'm sick and tired of spending half a day on the first turn so I want to get this fixed and keep this game going.

Update:

I started a new game from scratch just to see what a new one would do. In the first combat which was a submarine attack ... I did NOT see any depth charges go off against the submarine (which I remember seeing before).

What is causing this? I used to see these animations before but now I don't.

edit:

In air to air combat I also don't see the gun flashes. Then when aircraft are bombing I don't see the smoke on the "ground".

Well if you dont see them now when you used to, then obviously you changed something. Delay times, reports on/off, animations, something. Undo whatever you did.

It could also be a corrupted file.  I haven't been able to see the ships in the animation for almost a year now {I reloaded art and still have the same problem}.  I've never been able to fix it and have been too lazy to reinstall WITP {and the patches, and the mods, and ABs map, and CHS......}

Big problem is when people upgrade their Ship-Art folders, they forget about the spacer 0000 (first image in folder). If you check your ‘ShipShills_transp’ file make sure you have JnShil0000. It is just a spacer but if missing you ship animations won’t work. It can be any ship just as long as the name is right. [;)]

I resolved the problem.

I uninstalled the game. Reinstalled along with the patches and then installed Andrew Brown's maps. I also rebooted my computer since I rarely turn it off.

Either reinstalling or rebooting solved the problem.
