sal & pbl files

OK, I'm not very sophisticated with computer speak but what's the difference between sal and pbl files. Enquiring minds want to know. Another unrelated question. I recently had to purge my computer ofall its data to get rid of a nasty virus. I had to reload all my games and have noticed a change in my saves. Before when I saved a turn before its done and ready to be sent off to my opponent in a PBEM the saves had a bluish colored icon. The final save(end of my move ) had a grayish icon. The turn from my opponent also had the grayish icon. Now I notice my saves before my turn is done have the gray icon. (it used to be blue) It made it easier to pick out the correct file to send and not confuse the final save with a turn I was still working on. Is this just a setting issue or is there a problem?

The .pbl file is created when your PBEM turn ends. It's the one you send to your opponent. The .sal file is created whenever you save a turn for future resumption of play, be it hotseat or PBEM.

The icon you see in your Windows Explorer is not determined by TOAW. Rather, it is set by Windows, usually dependent upon what program you've set to run when a file of a particular suffix is double-clicked (at least that's what I think...I'm not a Windows expert). So when you purged your computer, you purged all those choices. There's no telling what you had set to run.
