Not seeing combat

Post by Mike Parker »

I have played several games as the Axis, the last as just the Italians.

When I played Germany (I set Germany Italy Romania Hungary Bulgaria Finland and Spain as Human) I could see everything no problem. When I played Italy (Only set Italy as Human) I could only watch the borders turn during Germanies and the allies actions until I entered the war, then I could see everything.

I decided to play a game as the allies, I set US USSR UK France and Poland to Human, but now I cannot see what happens during the turn. Its awful hard when I am playing France and am unable to see the actions when France is being attacked.

I suspect this is because I am US also and it ends turn on the US so since I am neutral!

Is there something I can do or should be doing? Is there a convenient way to change the control from Human to AI etc? Or is there a way to set it to view things even when neutral?

When you play with Allied by Pbem you dont see combats. To know what happened you have to look at the report it

And as Mike says, even against the AI you see very little combat if your combination of nations is not just right.  I have played many times with the USSR as the only human controlled nation, and you see battle reports from the west, but as Mike says the graphics are sweeping yellow borders, back and forth, tantalizing you, and challenging your imagination!

I see this as a problem. In our PBEM game, Balto and I are experiencing these same problems and then some. Examples -- the destruction of both the German and Italian navies continues to be unnoticed in any of the reports; nuetrals have declared war with no notification to either of us, France asked for an armistice and Vichy was established without any notification, etc.
I think that we have to put in a system where all active parties are notified of political events, esp ones that occur during your opponents turn.

Dear Miike Pytel,

Gary and I have agreed to share this information with one another. Only the Axis player sees the inter-turn messages. The Axis player sees naval combat that happens between turns and should share the ships lost on both sides, and which sea zone. The Axis player is responsible for sharing, really directing the questions to the Allied player.  For example I have sent Gary the question about the response of France to the invasion of Poland, whether to sit behind the Maginot line, prepare for the offensive, or go on the offensive.  When he replies I will answer the question and continue.

If and when the Vichy question comes I will pass it to the Allies to answer.  In RtW Gary was careful not to read the production reports and convoy reports that should have come to my Allies.  This is a flaw in PBEM which requires considerate and careful attention.  When I took control of a neutral I informed Gary, and vice versa.  In general your rule should be : If the other players could know something in an AI game then they should be told. If you are offered information you would not have in an AI game you should ignore it.  All questions should only be answered by the appropriate party.

For normal combat related data we have relied on reports, but these fail on naval matters.  All such communication issues can be worked out between considerate players.  The burden is on the Axis player since they see all reports.  For example sharing the seige results for the other players seiges is nice, etc.
