Ship graphics

Post by Akos Gergely »

After all these new and beautiful map teasers (thanks Andrew!) it would be really nice to have some sneak peak at the naval graphics :)

For example some teaser shot showing all those various fits and paint versions of a certain ship (let's say Lexington Saratoga had at leaset 4 looks/camo - and if I might ask South Dakota class as well :)) .

Could we get that please ohh please!!!

John, you wanna show a few, go ahead!

Actually BigB did some of my favorites, the Japanese cruisers (since I did the data for them), maybe John will show a few of those too!

John, if you taking requests, I would love to see some of the late war allied stuff. Midway, Iowa, long hull Essex.

Would be great to see some of the yet unseen aircraft sides too!

Thanks in advance!

First off, don’t forget, this is art for the commercial product. Matrix wishes to keep the ship details visible in the commercial product. Since the job of dazzle is to obscure ship details, only the hulls of a limited number of ships were implemented in dazzle measures, and subdued ones at that. Topsides were not – on purpose, so as not to obscure the superstructure details. Sorry, but this is not-negotiable for the general release product.

All the artists have a vast stock of after-market art that will be made available to the paint job grogs. Most ships have multiple upgrade art slots, for this very purpose. TomLabel is the “Measure” king and probably has every ship in every paint job ready to go. We also have a complete listing of every bitmap for every ship class, the evolution (upgrade) flow, and the time period (mm,yy).

Don't be sorry, JWE, this is your job. However, since I've made it, I'm posting this one. It shows the progression of the Tennessee class, chronologically from top to bottom:

Oh, and "I've made it" refers to the composite of the three ship sides, not the ship sides themselves.

Don't be sorry, JWE, this is your job. However, since I've made it, I'm posting this one. It shows the progression of the Tennessee class, chronologically from top to bottom:
Very pretty. That brings up a good point, T. Art shows some “interim” rebuilds as well as historical rebuilds. Arizona was destroyed at PH, and Pennsylvania got a full rebuild (twin 5/38s and all that) right out of the box. But the game might not get the same PH results, so maybe BuShips might do a ‘quick & dirty’ rebuild on the Pennsylvania class, like they did for Tennessees and especially Colorados.

So, there’s an ‘interim’ in there; mainmast cut down with directors added, same secondary armament, same bridge, more AA – players can hang with that for a while if they want, and then go for the full rebuild. Here’s what it looks like.

Whoops, forgot. Some Japanese CLs had CLAA conversions. Others were planned, but 'stuff happened' and they didn't get done. BigB found the drawings for these, and they are in the pile too. I'll post some of these along with some of the Kaiten carrier conversions.

Amazing! Belive it or not but these small gems contribute a lot to the overal game feeling.

I guess the policy for the aftermarket stuff still haven't changed, so we can't see TOMLABEL's "Measure"s :) ?

Since it's not "official" AE art, yes. Not in the AE forum, at least...

Lol. [:D]

Okay, here’s more of BigB’s ‘specials’. Tenryu morphing into a CLAA (official IJN blueprints), Kitakami morphing into a Kaiten carrier (official IJN blueprints), and Mogami morphing into a CVS (official IJN blueprints).

I'm new, so don't yell at me.

JWE has pictures on white backgrounds, Terminus has pictures on the backgrounds I'm used to seeing. Is something strange happening here?
