Trouble Advancing Turn

This revised and updated turn-based grand strategy game from the team at AGEOD brings players back to World War I, including both the Eastern and Western fronts and over 4 campaigns and 10 scenarios. As either a member of the Central Powers, the Entente or a neutral nation, players will confront the epic gauntlet of military and political challenges that faced the likes of Kitchener, Joffre, Luddendorf, Clemenceau, Czar Nicholas II or Enver Pasha.

Trouble Advancing Turn

Post by New York Jets »

I'm diving into the campaign and I finish the Diplomatic Phase. I want to progress to the next phase and I can't. The game says I have not finished activation and cannot continue. I have gotten this while trying to play as the German as well. How do I know which units I have to screw with to progress the turn? The game just says that I cannot continue on.

There is an indicator next to those units, but I agree it is a pain. But good news! The next patch (rumoured to possibly be released tomorrow afternoon, but I'm sure early next week at the latest) will include hotkeys to cycle through units still waiting for a mandatory attack.

I had the same problem Chris.

As Andrew says, there is an icon (red?...can't remember specifically) which identifies which units need to be actioned. Some units need to make an assault...not sure I really like the idea...I mean, if I don't want to assault a strongpoint with a weak unit, why should I have to...but I suppose it's there for a reason!

I'm waiting for the patch that allows you to identify where battles are taking place...it's that which I find really annoying at the moment.

I like the idea of forced attacks in a WWI game; one of the real problems simulating WWI is that nearly all players *know* exactly what will happen and simply won't launch the kind of devastatingly bad idea attacks which are historical. You really are trying to simulate a period where well into the war commands would order an attack which decimated their command and then order the same attack the next week.

One of the best table top miniatures games of WW1 I ever played was a 1914 eastern front scenario where by sheer luck the Austro-Hungarian force commanders had never played the time period before. They lined up 3 regiments of line infantry in nice happy assault columns as they marched onto the field...and then nearly had nervous break downs when they suffered 80% casualties in the first two rounds.

However - that said, I think the game could use a more obvious indicator of which units need to attack/advance. (In general, more information/tool tips on why you can't choose an option or advance a phase in the game would be good as well)

The mandatory attacks simulate the doctine of the time for France/Austia-Hungary to attack. This is shown with red flags on the army units, which turn green when the mandatory attack/advance is satisfied.

Expect a 1.06 patch very soon. I've just uploaded the latest (last) manual version to Calvinus with all Events and Stratagems included.

Waiting for the patch is all well and good but, I can't play the game now.

I chose War Plan XIII, so there are no mandatory attacks in August. I get through the diplomatic phase ok and then when I get to activation all of my HQ's in France are locked because of the War Plan I chose. So who the F am I supposed to activate to advance the turn?!

I've really made a committment to this game and I'm getting frustrated. I spend, literally, half an hour checkinig every French unit to see if I'm missing something and I am not finding anything.

A BIG THANK YOU, to MartNick for his help in figuring this out. I am really committed to this game and I want to play a PBEM game, as well.

I was just having trouble figuring things out. I'm sure I will have more questuions later.

A short beta of the 1.06 patch was just released. This should provide you with the hotkeys to make the mandatory attacks easier.

Also worth a mention, if you are NOT playing WEGO, (ie if you are playing Army by Army activation mode) you will need to activate ALL armies before you can progress the turn. Even if you don't want to move or attack you must still activate each army and click "execute" before you move on.

For the allies you will need to remember the English armies in India and Egypt, the Russians in Armenia plus the Japanese (provided they are at war). Took me ages to work out which armies I had forgotten to activate the first few times.
