digging in or hey I'm in this trench you see!

Hello...

Ive got a question on the "digging in" part of this game. Ive got 2 linked computers and I noticed in the first map of the GC any infantry unit's trench (americans)will appear if its within line of site of any enemy unit (germans). Although the unit doesnt appear, it pretty much gives away your setup. These trenches are showing up at a good distance too.

I wondered why first time I played a GC my opponent seemed to know exactly were my american units were hidden on that map(south eifel).

According to manual and I quote "so what may appear to an attacker as an open field on a map could actually be a vast network of enemy trenches (page 54)". So to me this doesnt seem right.

I havnt checked out any of the other maps yet, but I would think these trenches shouldnt appear until a enemy unit gets at least close to it.

Anyway, thanks for all the info out here and to all the hard work you guys put into this game.

Rob...

Hmm; that sounds undesirable. The first thing I do as an attacker is direct fire at likely-looking trenches and buildings. I cut-and-pasted most of your post to illustrate a question I just posted to the Tech Support forum.

ah yes, and the first thing my friends panthers saw, were the digwholes my troopers made in the forrest.
really funny. these wholes are good for nothing. i had to learn on "recht", where all troops sitting in foxwholes were wiped out by direct fire.
its a shame!

I notice that when the game/battle loads it randomly displays a wreck or 2 and some craters.
Is their a # as to how many are added?
Is this done during GC's/Ops. or just single Battles?
I would like to know if it's possible to edit this so that when the battle does start that it randomly puts trenches instead of a wreck or crater.

I too dont like the fact that many times when the AI deploys I can see there trenches almost instantly in some casses.
While it doesnt solve the issue with seeing trenches easily it would provide some confusion and after many Battles confuse you into not knowing which ones were which.

Or is this something Hard Codded into the game that only the Dreaded Hex Edit can find/change?
