'End Of Season Path Not Found'

Post by Wrathchild »

I encountered an error like this after acknowledging the current season's retirements. Being the brave soul I am I just hit OK and continued to build the almanac. What does this error mean and how much damage have I just brought upon myself?

The actual message is 'Debug Message: Error processing end of season: Path not found'.

It just keeps going back to prompt me to start the offseason. And even though I chose to update the almanac, there is no new data in it. Have I lost my association and will not be able to advance to the next season?

Uh-oh. Is there a way to access the backup PSA/PSX? Do you happen to have more than one install of the game in different directories? I'm no tech wiz, but this sounds like some sort of registry issue.

I'm not sure how far back the backups go. I'd hate to have to redo a large portion of the season, and maybe still have it fail at season end. I'm going to try a reinstall and see what happens. If that doesn't work, I'm going to take the end of the season file and run it on a different computer and see what happens. I don't want to have to redo the World Series and all that after having already written the reports (because I'm lazy).

I've also noticed something weird. In exporting the data from the Stats page this season has duplicate records for almost all players in the association. The weird thing is one record is their current age, and the other has their age as 2 years younger. I'm thinking that this association might be in serious data trouble, probably from all of the lockups during games I had this season.

Being the pigheaded sort that I am, I've done some more messing around. I took the file that was ready to start the offseason and ran it on a different computer. On this machine it went all the way through without error, so the problem must be machine specific. However, before starting the Amateur Draft I exported the Puresim file for my records, as I was noticing that it was showing that people were retiring after 8 season, even though the association was only 6 seasons old. And the players were all showing as 2 years older than they should be! And then when I looked at the database I saw that I had records for 1906 and 1907, even though I was just finishing the 1905 season. Whatever this error is, it seems to have wreaked havoc on my data. But I have a couple of older files, one from the very end of the season, after the last day of regular play. I'm going to run this one and see if it gets me back on track. The only work I'll really have is revising my end of season report a little bit. And I'm definitely staying on as manager for another season after this headache! In fact, I'm going to change my signature now so I don't change my mind.

Still playing detective with this mystery. The error occurs as the game begins the Generating New Players portion. What path could it be looking for? Does it matter that the game is installed to other than the default destination? I installed the game to 'Program Files' instead of the root directory, but this is reflected correctly in the Registry. Is there some other hardcoded reference in the Puresim folder that is looking in a different location?

Well, gentlemen, it appears that the installation location does make a difference. I reinstalled on the system that's been constantly giving me issues, and the post season ran like a charm. Note that this was after uninstalling and reinstalling to my preferred location. So it seems that something in the player generation routine is looking at a specific location. This is something that should be changed with the new game.

Thanks for being persistent, Wrathchild. I tend to use games' default directories, but your investigations will prove useful to others.

Glad to hear it too. Ignore my message to you since you have found the problem.  So, if I understand correctly, you installed to a directory of your choosing and not the default directory?[&o]

Already replied to your message since I saw that before this. [:)] In summary, yes, I encountered the error when having the game installed to a folder of my choice and not the default.
