schedule

Post by sooner7 »

I am playing the 1981 season in replay mode. It is my third year, and before the season, it generated the 1981 schedule. I looked at my schedule for the year, and noticed in half of June, and all of July, no team names at all on the dates, only gray. I cursored over the day, and the team i am supposed to play would show up, but that is all. Is the whole season ruined, or will it play games on that date? Thanks

Sooner, this is curious. Couple of questions:
1) Did you import an OOTP or RetroSheet 1981 schedule? Or did PureSim generate one on its own?
2) When you say you opened the schedule to view it, are you opening from the Main Screen (Games) or does it only occur when you open schedule from a teams page?

P.S. If you haven't already, I'd make sure you make a backup before going any further. And hopefully, you have a backup prior to the schedule being generated/imported - just in case.

If I remember correctly, the game it had a schedule for the 1981 season. Are those imported? I didn't go to OOTP, etc. Second, it shows up when I am on the teams page and when I am looking at my teams future schedule.
Thanks for the backup tip. I will be sure to do that.

I realized what it is. 1981 was a strike year, and there was no basball in July, and some of June and August. Has anyone played a strike year before? Thanks

Hmm -- I didn't realize that 1981 recreated the strike/split season until I looked at the schedule. Isn't an original full schedule (assuming no strike) available in OOTP format? Check out the Retrosheet 1994 sked -- another strike year -- it ends in August. Let this be a warning for career players.

Has anyone played a strike year before

About a year ago, the association I was simming went through both the 1981 & 1994 seasons with actual strike-shortened schedules. And here is something important to be aware of:
If memory serves correctly, by suddenly going from 162 games per season to something drastically less, it dramatically affected both the "number" and "quality" of HOF elections at the end of the strike shortened season. Suddenly the game decided to elect players that had retired 30, 40, 50, or 60 years ago that frankly it would not have otherwise been considered for induction. The following season, when the schedule went back to 162 games per season everything was fine.
So, that tells me that the number of games played each season is somehow used in a formula to determine HOF eligibility. I do know that at the beginning of each season - after the schedule is set - the number of games (162, 154, etc) for the current season is saved to the WORLD table in the database.
My intention is, when I reach the beginning of the 1981 season in the association I am currently simming, is to manually change the number of games in the WORLD table to 162 games. Then sim out the season and see how the HOF election process works then. However, I'm a long, long way off from the 1981 season right now (1948 currently).

Sounds like a need for another utility. :)
