Netbooks

Post by captcadwallader »

I just bought a Lenovo Ideapad S10 netbook. The resolution is 1024 x 600. As I look at the Matrix games they all seem to be 1024 x 768. What this is telling me is that the fastest growing part of the PC market can not run Matrix games. Surely I am wrong. Can I buy a Matrix game and have it run on my netbook?

All the best.

While it may be a fast growing segment of pc sales, netbooks were not really made to be gaming machines. I doubt you will have much luck conforming games to that resolution; most games here also were developed before the rise of netbooks. Perhaps, as newer gamer are developed, resolutions such as 1024x600 may become more available. I have an asus netbook and, to be honest, I could not bear trying to play, say, War in the Pacific on such a small screen.

I'm using my Netbook for reading .pdf manuals or forums while playing. Those machines are not meant to replace gaming rigs.

That is what I use mine for as well. Very handy.

Hi, netbooks or ePC's or whatever you call these great little helpers are not ment for gaming at all.
I'm not sure we will ever support such small resolutions fully.

netbooks are not made for gaming,  there maybe some games that run on it but graphics card sucks, and so does resolution.  I have a gaming PC but I just purchased a netbook as it is light and battery lasts a long time mainly for browsing the internet and playing old DOS games in dosbox since most of those games do not require a lot of horse power and ran in 640x480 resolution or less for most of them this works out great.  I would never buy a netbook as my main PC if I wanted to play games on it.  If it was just for browsing, and maybe word processing then yes but not for gaming.

Just out of curiousity, does Steel Panthers (not necessarily SPWAW) run on them?

Hi,

THis thread made me try SPWAW on my Asus EEEPC 1000H with Windows XP and it worked without any problems whatsoever. Installed 8.20 and upgraded first to 8.30 and then to 8.40.

Laptops for Learning

All 15 year old school children in Australia are being given a Lenovo S10e this year, this will be expanded in subsequent years.... it is a hugely growing segment that , at least in Australia, will accelerate over the next few years.

The resolution they are equipped with is 1024x576 (wide screen).

My son gets his in August and is already scouting around to see what games hge can get onto it.

I had a play with one yesterday.

These machines come equipped with Windows 7, 2GB RAM , 160GB hard drives and 6 cell batteries dso they can run for most of the day.

Cool - what resolution is it running? The specs make it look like 1366 x 768 which is notebook class more than netbook.

Thanks, Rob

Well I run all my games at full screen, they all seem to stretch or resize to my screen resolution which is 1366 X 768 native. I would call it a netbook since it only has an 11.6 in. screen and an Atom processor. Also using Windows 7 full version 32-bit and 2 gb ram.
