CHS 157 and 159

Post by Nomad »

Does anyone have comments about these scenarioss? Interested in how the air-2-air and air-ship combat is compared to stock and/or nikmod. I have a possible opponent but he asked for nikmod and I do not want to play on a stock map.

I can comment on scenario 160. I believe the only difference between 159 & 160 is that the Russians start active. My opponent, FeurerKrieg is playing Japan and is running an AAR. It might be good to post there to get his viewpoint on the A2A model.

We're in early 43 and the A2A results are almost dead even at this point. My opponent appears to be digging in for the coming assault and isn't doing much bombing anymore. This isn't to say that he's passive; on the contrary he has been very aggressive with his carriers and using bases to harrass the American advance with LBA wherever possible.

We have had some interesting air battles so far. I got really lucky in mid 42 with a carrier battle near Johnston Island with the KB. The strike package that came from his side was almost completely devastated for a few scratches. I'm not sure how bad this has ultimately hurt him. The AA from the CVTF in this instance attributed for at least 50% of his losses.

As far as AA goes what I have noticed is you will take higher casualties on lower altitudes. 12-15k seems to be a decent altitude to fly a bombing raid from. I tend to go in lower because my planes are more durable and I have so many of them that a few losses here and there to flak don't really matter.

The Tonys and Tojos that everone raves about don't seem to be the ultimate killers here but I only have have half of the picture. I don't know what experience his pilots are at that are flying those planes. I've noticed some Jacks showing up recently but haven't flown against them yet. By the time they're a real force most of my next generation figthers will be coming on line in production as well.
