Realism?

Post by Perturabo »

Hello, could someone tell me how realistic is WPO?
I'm wondering mostly about the chain of command and "player character's" influence on the world.
Is the player occupy a specific position in chain of command or is he a "gamey" commander? If yes, how well represented is it in game?
Are there subordinates that deal with lesser things or does the player have to micromanage everything?

It's quite realistic.

The player is essentially the supreme commander; it's up to him/her whether to be gamey or not. Think of a typical Civilization series game.

Yes - lots. You got pilots, ship captains, regiment commanders, etc. All of them have certain characteristics that will impact outcomes. And there is automation too - convoys, or even entire quadrants of the map can be automated. It's not recommended - but it's there.

There is a lot of number crunching in this game, but I think it's a healthy amount, not as much as in WitP :)

The lack of air transport makes ports crucial to the game. Most naval actions will occur around them as you try to defend, blockade or capture ports IMO. Given the lessons of the Russo-Japanese war and WWI I consider this pretty realistic.

Games seem to go faster than WitP which seems to have stuff happen every day. In WPO things may take awhile to develop but then intensify as plans come to fruition. Just my 2 cents.
