WaW Revised AAR Barthheart vs Explorer2 - Axis Europa

Post by Barthheart »

We are about to start a new game of Explorer2's excellent WaW mod. In doing this it will be more like a DAR, During action report. So there will be two separate threads, this one from the Axis view and another by Explorer2 from the West, Soviet and Chinese view.

I've been helping Explorer2 with this mod for some months now and this is our first real test drive. So there maybe errors that pop up or there may even be a re-start if something major goes amiss. Lots has changed and the events and actions of the players become so intertwined that sometimes it's hard to ccatch all the possibilities as seen in wick's WaW game! [X(]

I hope you will enjoy reading these and get some idea of the changes that have been made. We'll try to describe the changes as they come up. Feel free to comment or ask questions but please don't give away any strategy or secrets that you read in the other thread... it might spoil the game. [8D]

OK Explorer2 this is the last message you can read in this thread! [:-]

Something that Explorer2 has implimented in this mod is a point scoring system similar to the one used for ladder games. It's hoped that this will help prolong some games where the situation seems hopeless so you can continue to get points then compare those to another game playerd from the other side. We'll post these so you can tell how teh points system works.... to tell the truth I'm not even sure soit will be fun to see what happens.

Points are calculated at the start of your turn as follows VP's * 100 + enemy power points killed so far.
So here the Axis have 4800 points because we have no kills yet.

Here is the mighty German army on 1st Sept. 1939. Turns are now 28 days, or 4 weeks exactly. You can also see a new unit type - coastal artillery. Very good against ships, next to useless againt anything else, not movable execpt by strategic movement.

Each and every country now has it's own people and therefore it's own colour, own flag and ID symbol. When a country joins a regime it keeps it's people. So now you can actually see Italians on the East front, Canadian's storming Normandy etc.

Germany can no longer stand by while Poland oppresses Germans in Danzig and continues to attack our border guards.
It has come to WAR!
German troops stream across the Polish frontier in well coordinated attacks with the Luftwaffe and the Kreigsmarine.

German wolfpack escapes into the Atlantic before the Royal Navy can respond to our lightening moves on the continent.
(Many changes to the naval system including subs hiding better at sea and moving farther. However their duration is only 6 turns so you can't hide for ever....)

Another change is the relationship with Russia. Now they join automatically in Jan. 1941 OR if the Germans begin to mass troops before then. The Garrison rule is still in effect from 1941 on.

German troops enter Warsaw!
Other troops redeploy to the French border as they have joined with the evil British and her lacky colonies to oppose our right to defend ourselves and all German people.
(Even though I captured Warsaw, the Polish people won't build for the Germans. At the begining of next turn Warsaw will be changed to a "Captured" city with German people and I can then start building stuff... but only supplies, PP, and non combat SFT's - horse, truck, trains, transport planes.)

Another position report from our wolfpack... setting up to interdict supplies and material coming from Canda to England.

Another AAR, much appreciated! Thanks.
First question: "subs hiding better at sea and moving farther. However their duration is only 6 turns so you can't hide for ever". Well that's a good thing, but do you have to count those 6 turns yourself or does the game remind you that x-turns are left?

Well... by duration I meant supplies. So subs can now only carry 6 turns worth of supplies with them before needing to go to port or have supplies transfered to them.[;)]

Ah ofcourse, thanks. My knowledge of the english language is lacking sometimes.
But I'm glad that their hide ability has improved because many times my early subs were blasted faster out of the water than I could build them. [:@]

With the occupation of Warsaw teh Germans get 2 action cards, 1 old and 1 new.
Old - Eastern Blitz - allows Germans to atttack the Soviet Union and shows the different effects based on when it's played.
New - Germans pressure axis minors to join war - Costs alot but maybe worth it. (We'll have to see if the cost is too high or too low)

Since Warsaw has been occupied for a whole turn, now the Germans can produce things there... but only some....

With the collapse of our enemy to the east and war threatening from the west, our troops move quickly to the French border. A new garrison HQ is raised to keep the Russians honest. Also a second wolfpack is being put together. We've had no sightings of the RN so I'm a bit worried.... So far the all the French do is hide in their pitiful trenches... so we bombard some with artillery and divebombers.

Our first wolfpack is successful in sinking some Western supplies. So we change locations to avoid beig found too easily.
(Note: It appears the Canadian HQ is try to supply Halifax by sea making it too easy to intercept. So we'll fix that by adding a land connection to Halifax from Montreal... but after this game...)

Winter comes early this year (50% chance of happening in Nov.). This increases teh demand for supplies and slows the troop movment down.
Move bombardment (red) of the Maginot line as the French seem to continue to withdraw units. German WestWall troops (green) have been given horse transportation for the inevitable advance into France.

This time our wolfpack sinks some supplies headed for England. So we move to get a better position on this convoy route.
