Question about BG CW artillery suppy.

Post by Dan K »

Greetings,
Can some one explain the artillery supply in Matrix Battleground Civil War? I read the rule book, and still am puzzled. I am playing a Gettysburg battle and at the end of day two, I am out of artillery ammo according to the terrain box. I took the rules to mean the supply could go back up upon the arrival of new artillery units. So far this is not the case. Looking for a better explanation.

Many thanks in advance!

It does go up with new units but only their intrinsic supply (say, 20 fires total). That amount can be used by all (which I find unrealistic - I'd rather see it kept unit by unit with full resupply based on division, corps, and army stockpiles). One has to realize that ammo was brought in from the south by wagon with the army. when it runs out, it runs out and it must be managed. The south did run out of ammo at Gettysburg - just prior to Pickett's charge. The timing of the attack was even delegated to the artillery commander because of the limited ammo and based on his assessment of how effective the barrage was.
