This is a scenario about the Vietnam invasion of Democrathic Kampuchea in 1979
BACKGROUND
1. During the First Indochina War, when Vietnam and Cambodia allied against the French, Vietnamese forces had made great use of Cambodian territory in transporting weapons, supplies, and troops. This relationship lasted through the Vietnam War, and even after the war, people from both countries commonly crossed the border unhindered.
Even before the Vietnam War had ended, the relationship between the Khmer Rouge and Vietnam was strained. Clashes between Vietnamese and Khmer Rouge forces began as early as 1974. The Khmer Rouge demanded that the Mekong Delta area be returned to Cambodia, and that all Vietnamese leave the area. The Vietnamese refused these demands since the Mekong Delta had been Vietnamese territory for nearly three centuries. In retaliation, thousands of Vietnamese were either executed or forced out of Cambodia, and villages along the border were attacked. This led to further escalation of the conflict and ultimately to the Vietnamese invasion and occupation of Cambodia.
2. SCALE
Units are at battalion level with division or brigade level HQs. Each SFT equals around 10-20 men and 5-10 vehicles. One round equals one day. Map size is 70*65 hexes.
3. VICTORY
Historicly the battlehardened and well equipped Vietnamese army was very superior to the Khmer Rouge militia. So there was more or less no question of who would invade whom. The only question was wether the Khmer Rouge regime would be able to hold out long enough to force a diplomatic sollution of some sort.
The scenario lasts 14 rounds. If Democratic Kampuchea controls 10 VPs or more after the 14th round then Kampuchea have won. If Vietnam manages to capture enough VPs to put Kampuchea below that before that time then Vietnam wins.
Vietnam starts with 10 VPs and needs 22 to win. Each town in Kampucha is worth 1VP. Phnom Penh is worth 5 VPs.
4. RULE CHANGES
Research, upgrades etc is turned off.
Villages and towns can only produce supply and PPs. Cities, capitols etc can produce small amounts of infantry or trucks.
4.1 Roads.
There are 2 kinds of road in the scenario. Trail and normal road. Normal road is more effective.
4.2 Units
Units are more or less the same as in normal AT. Some have been renamed (divebombers to tactical bombers) and some are not present because these types of units were not deployed in the war.
The blue Vietnames KNUFN units represent the anti Khmer Rouge guerilla that the Vietnamese supported.
5. AI, Compatability etc
This scenario should be playable against an AI opponent. It can even be tough to resiste the vietnamese as an Kampuchea player.
The scenario was created using parts of the Real Mod. Installation of this mod could be needed to get the scenario to work properly.
