OT: Who can beat me?

Post by skrewball »

I was just looking through some of the post counts of alot of the regulars here and I noticed that "Joined" date...

So I looked at mine, I remember I joined these forums way back in the day waiting for UV to be released. I can still remember when the CD showed up at my door!

So, has anyone joined before 12/10/2000? Wow, I've been a Matrix Supporter for 8.5 years now! And I was so graciously rewarded with the command USS United States! (Those of you with WITP:Plan Orange know what I'm talking about!) [:D]

Yes this can be consider a "Look at me" thread, but I am curious whose been around the longest!

A few of us joined much earlier than the posted dates. Look in my profile and you will see I am on my third registry. The forum has had teething problems.
I joined maybe a half year after SPWAW was released for free in a magazine, IIRC.
(I suspect Terminus already had 17000 posts at that time?)[:D]

Ah, but the true test of an artist is how much they can say without saying anyway at all. Hence my short join date and big post count. [:D]

But tis better to be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt. Thus my early joining date and low post count. Only my PBEM opponents know for sure I'm a fool...[:D]

I've been around a bit. I was playing PacWar back in 1994, and part of me still misses the ability to really push a game into the mid 1944 range. But that was back on the old Halisp (SP??) PacWar board where I know some of the really old gringos came from to this board... Just can't remember who all was there. Rich Dionne comes to mind, along with a guy named Bear, Jorser, and several others with whom we talked about a more advanced game about the PTO.

I still around

in the old days of computer gaming, always wished there was someplace to ask questions when you had trouble with a game, once I found this place, it was pretty good at it, and I hope I have been able to help others who had questions, when I knew the answer (or at least thought I did)

Hi John,

they are from plastic model kits.
The Hiryu picture is from an old kit from Aoshima 1/700 not in production anymore.
And the Kate is from a Hasegawa kit if I remember correctly.
You can find many small pictures from kits here: http://www.hlj.com

And then there is this book with many paintings from Yuzuki Takeshi:
http://www.wohld.com/product_info.php?products_id=5070
I added a picture from Atago from the book.

I have many covers from ship kits still lying around. Among them is the Hiryu.
If you want I can scan it and send it to you.

btw. I'm reading your AARs since many weeks. They are very entertaining. Thank you for your effort.

Get some time up young feller.....

GRUMP!! [;)] [:D]

I will agree with m10bob in that we go a lot further back than that. I also lost over 460 posts in the great forum reset of 2000!! [:D] (Compare that to how many I've racked up in the next 9 years... [X(]).

If you look at the member list sorted by join date, you will see the Matrix staff were loaded into the current forum around the 27Mar00 and then the masses started to (re)create their accounts from the beginning of April 2000 onwards. To show how popular the forum was back then, I am 17 pages into the member list despite only re-joining a few weeks later. (This a bit of a nostalgia trip looking back at the membership list from the early days [:)])

I was playing sp2ww2 & spww2 when I started hearing about a new project called SPWaW which was going to be based on the SP3 engine which turned out to be the best yet. Never looked back!!

Edit: I just checked my CD rack and I still have an unpatched copy of SPWaW V1.0. [X(] Maybe a museum would be interested???? (SPWaW was up to V3.0 by the mid 2000 according to my e-mail archive).

Cheers,
Reg.

Depends what you mean by "beginning" ... AE is an outgrowth of CHS/RHS which have been around for years - some players decided to go with a full-blown "expansion" and formed a new development operation... the official Matrix AE announcement was late in 2007, iirc, so not quite 18 months ago... of course, it had been being worked on for some months before that.
