Which of three strategies?

Post by TommyBoy84 »

Which of these three options would you support for the use of Japanese political points:

1.) Change commands of Air Units in the home islands and China so you can ship them to front line bases to bolster strongholds and newly acquired bases. There are a lot of nice fighter and bomb groups trapped under restricted commands, especially in the home islands.

2.) Use/Save points to change commands of infantry units for use in invasions or defense. If you support this option, would you go with several smaller infantry units, or save up and get fewer of the 400+ AV ones?

3.) Use points to change commands of engineer units in the home islands and China to support increased air operations, repairs, and expansions on the front lines.

I'd imagine a mix of all three is best, but which should be my primary focus? I'm worried my air defenses are lacking on the front lines. However, I also want to make sure I have enough air support for those planes, and enough infantry troops defending those planes and that air support. What are your thoughts?

I take the mix. [;)]

Initially you might want to have the additional aircraft and base forces to support your expanison. In the next phase you need engineers to consolidate and in the last phase you need infantry meat to defend and delay the allied juggernaut.

Now it just comes down to timing... [8D][;)]

You have to do all three. Your emphasis will change over the war from 1 and 2 to 1, 2 and 3.

Of the 3 I would tend to downplay #3.  A pitfall for the Japanese is to overbuild bases.

I agree that both #1 and #2 are important.  In the early going I would tend to emphasize #1 as IJ has most of the infantry support it needs to take the historically important bases.

Something not on your list but important are your unit leaders.  You should be making sure all your front line air unit leaders are the best they can be.

Another item along niceguy2005's point is to make sure your naval TF's have an appropriate leader.

Look up your arriving units. Japan seems to me to get pretty much all they need just really spread out over a long period of time. You might be able to save some PP with long range planning.

Now that I think of it though, the rear area units can be a different HQ and function well. No need to change everything. Example; Southern area or SE fleet or 4th fleet anywhere on the map will function and be able to pick-up and redeploy later as needed.

My main point is a base unit works descent anywhere well supplied for a certain period of time. And a unit in a Malarial zone well supplied with plenty of support and HQ will likewise deteriorate given enough time there.

There is an issue of gameyness having odd commands in say China/India no?

I think no-one ever feels they have enough AV for the really big pushes. But you can save PP on base units which eventually become plentiful.

I haven't been playing really long, but what i did is switch units in supporting roles

like armor & engeneer reg. these cost relatively low amounts of pp and reduce losses/ provide more options.

the rest goes in a mix
