Seeking downloadable workbook
Seeking downloadable workbook
The game manual (page 73) states that one can "See the downloadable The Longest Day Workbook for detailed information" on designing mods, campaigns, etc.
Does anyone have a link to where I can get the download?
thanks,

RE: Seeking downloadable workbook
I can arrange it for you. Will check into it and post back here asap.
*edit* it's in the works. Making some last minute fixes to it to be sure it's as current as the release.

RE: Seeking downloadable workbook
Got the workbook - thanks a lot!
The effort to compile all that information was enormous - thank you for doing all that work and making it available in a logical format.
I will be re-familiarizing myself with the CC experience, now that the game can be played on a modern machine, and I expect to do some scenario creation after that. The workbook will help make my task easier and result in better balanced opponents in the end product.
Thanks again,

Nope: Not there - at least I can't see it. Nothing in bottom right hand corner of that page but a big ole cross of iron link.

RE: Seeking downloadable workbook
I see lots of modable values... except for what I am looking for. Maybe I just don't know what it is called in the workbook.
When I play, Inf and AT guns are detected instantly at the start of every game and are blown up 10 seconds later. Not kidding. I want to reduce their profile by half, so they are harder to see before they fire. I also want to give them some durability or 1mm of armor plating so they don't blow up so fast. Any hints?

RE: Seeking downloadable workbook
its the mortars that need to be changed not the guns you have to make there penetration or HE value 9 not the 15 they have. wonder if they even play the game ( there is a gun 2or3 mortars rounds later its dead) if the real war was like that there would no point in havin guns.

Those are the values for CCTLD only.

Ok, I don't see one that mentions unit size or profile. Does it exist?

RE: Seeking downloadable workbook
loyalcitizen - Have a look at the "vehicles" sheet in the workbook. Go to column DR and DS. DR is closer to what you're looking for. However I've altered that value when working on a mod I made (Afrika 4041 for stock CC5) and noticed very little effect if any of altering that value. I'd have to ask Steve McClaire about the details of how that functions and exactly what that value does. Sometimes data controls are somewhat limited in what they do. In my attempts it didn't do much. I DO know that the team experience, command radius, terrain the gun is sitting in ALL factor in to how visible or invisible vehicles are so don't expect to see AT guns vanish if you reduce the value to zero.
Warning -- personal opinion...
I feel that without a really well trained, intelligent crew, with lots of set-up time, the exact perfect terrain and good commander an AT gun is akin to hiding an elephant on a football field. At the Legion post my dad belongs to they had a 3in AT gun out front like most legions do. As a kid that thing seemed at least 6' to 8' tall. A MAMMOTH gun with a humongous front armor plate that covered the entire front profile of the gun. Tires 3' tall. It'd take you at least half a day to find the right location for it, camoflage it properly and use it in such a way that you weren't detected on the first round or two. Something tells me the smoke cloud the generated by the first round would be a dead giveaway. Even with 'smokeless' powder. So I found it comical that there were folks who thought an AT gun in the desert (back to the Afrika 4041 mod) should be more hidden than what my mod was depicting. Not a commentary on your point since the terrain has everything to do with it and we're talking two completely different theaters.
I'd suggest taking more time in the placement of AT guns and be careful to use them when you have a good shot. I'm not sure if AT guns can be placed hull down like tanks since they don't have a turret. My point being that I'm not sure if the exe allows for them to be placed so that the least amount of height is visible on a rise if placed properly so that only from the gun up is exposed. I don't think the game calculates it like that. I think if a vehicle doesn't have a turret and there is clear LOS to the target the entire height profile of that gun/vehicle is visible to the enemy. But I'm not 100% sure. In reality you're only talking a few feet so it's a minimal difference if not anyway.
Hey tigercub, well glad to meet you! LOL[:D] Shows you how much time I have for playing the game these days.[:(] I don't even know all the guys in the same gaming clan![8|][&:][:@] You do have a different name here than in the clan forums tho... in fairness to me.[;)] Still these are our first words together. Anyway... Glad to see you're getting into modding.

RE: Seeking downloadable workbook
The workbook for the classic version has not been created. However you can still use a spreadsheet for opening those files to have them organized into proper rows and columns. If you need the header info you can refer back to the TLD workbook or copy the classic data into the TLD workbook. You'd have to be careful not to leave data from TLD behind as the classic version probably uses fewer quantities of each data type. i.e. if the classic Axsteams.txt has 56 team types and TLD has 102 you'd have 46 team types leftover from TLD at the very end of your classic version workbook.
