0.0.0.0 ip address??

Post by STIENER »

Hi
i bought and loaded the electronic ver. of the game a few days ago. i have played multiplayer a couple of times on TCP and had no problems hooking up.
then yesterday my opponant and i could not hook up. we couldnt find each other. we had good ping so our PC's could see each other i believe??. so we didnt play. we had regular [ our usual ] IP address's. so we didnt play.
tonite i had a different opponant and when we went to hook up i noticed my IP was 0.0.0.0 ????? i turned off my firewall. i do not have a router. i could not host, he couldnt find me. he hosted and i found him.

why would i now have a 0.0.0.0 IP just for TLD? i played GJS no problem with another opponant tonite and had my regular IP addy. HELP.......

You don't have a router.  What kind of connection do you use?  Was it your AV firewall or Windows firewall you turned off or both?  It sounds as if your IP mask is being displayed rather than your actual IP.  And if you're able to join but not host usually indicates you've not opened up the correct ports or your AV software is blocking connection and returning the mask instead of IP. The manual indicates the ports you need to have open.  UDP 6073 and the range UDP 2302 - 2400  I'd assume a modem would require port opening just like a router.  But I don't think it's related to your ports since you're able to play other CC games.  I suspect your CCTLD has not been given proper permission to access the internet within your AV software or a firewall.

I'll have someone else look at this as well to verify what I'm saying as well as offer more help.

CC TLD uses DirectPlay8.  If you're seeing a 0.0.0.0 IP address when you hit host, then DirectPlay couldn't find your local network adapter for some reason. Possibly a conflict with your ISP? I would suggest turning your cabel / DSL modem off and back on (assuming you have one) and rebooting your machine too.  The fact that you are able to do it some times and not others makes me suspect your ISP / internet connections and / or some other software you're running at the same time, as the way CC TLD works is the same each time.

i forgot to add.only discovered it later...i had the same 0.0.0.0 IP for WAR also but like i said not GJS.
my AV is AVG which i dont think interferes with anything like norton would do. and yes its was my windows firewall i turned off.
i was able to manually renew my IP address from my Run menu with a command prompt......got some help from my friend that i was playing TLD with. so now i have a good IP addy but we still could not find each other in TLD. so we played SAS which as u know is the old CC5......no problem finding people with that game. its wierd......we could hook up a few days ago.
ill try rebooting my PC and my DSL/cable modem and see what happens.
we found in WAR that Hamatchi sometimes interferes. it seems to be hit and miss tho......whats the deal with something like hamatchi? why can some people connect with it and others not? it works well with the old CC5 and not well with the new WAR and TLD.

ill let you know what happens. thanks for the help.

Hamachi can interfere as far as I know, if you have it installed you may want to try uninstalling it, rebooting and seeing if that helps.
