Bit confused - economy

This sequel to the award-winning Crown of Glory takes Napoleonic Grand Strategy to a whole new level. This represents a complete overhaul of the original release, including countless improvements and innovations ranging from detailed Naval combat and brigade-level Land combat to an improved AI, unit upgrades, a more detailed Strategic Map and a new simplified Economy option. More historical AND more fun than the original!

Bit confused - economy

Post by JudgeDredd »

I'm a bit confused with how to find out things in the economy.

For example, I noticed that my monthly returns on food from my regions was +130. So I decided to trade some for wine which I was short of. I think I traded something like 7 food for 3 wine...something like that. Anyway, the next turn, my food (at the bottom of the main display) went red, indicating a deficit.

So, how do I (where can I) find out how much "surplus" I have each month, so I can work out what to trade?

Thx

to be honest, I think food is too touchy to trade away, a little mistake here or there can really hurt you down the road

but, remember all kinds of things can effect it, weather, troops, the number of your troops stacked in a area, and or if they are across the border

bring up the little report pages above the bottom panel, the first two will give you all kinds of details on what is going on

Hi Judge,

Basically, I keep track of my total of each resource.  When I start to accumulate a large surplus, I know I should be looking to ship stuff out of the country.  So I look for trades to slowly draw down my surplus (because you can't sell, say, 100 food at once).  If you add more and more trades to get rid of the item, the amount you have on hand will slowly decline.  But usually, some unit purchases will do this faster.

What I can't tell you is this: where to find the exact amount of surplus or draw down each turn.  But I might have an idea.  I have to do a little research on that before I speak. :)

Thx lads, but what I was hoping for was something in the game that told me (monthly) what my "usage" of each resource was. I think it's ala EUIII I am thinking.

At the minute I can see what my stockpile is. I can also see what I produce monthly, but I have no idea what I use monthly. For example (and yes food was a bad example because it does vary depending on weather, foraging, troops sizes etc) with regard to food, I have a stockpile of 100 and a mnthly "income" of 134...but a report at the end which tells me what I used the previous month would be handy. I have no idea what I used out of 134.

I suppose I could write down on paper that I had a stockpile of 100 and a monthly gain of 134, ergo if my stockpile was down to 98, then I used 136 food that turn, but this is a computer game and I would've liked it to do it.

Also, again stay with me on food, I have the stockpile, and it's in yellow...moving the mouse over it I would liked to have seen a figure which said I produce +7 to my requirements or something like that. Or if wine is red, mouse over and it tells me that I use 2 more (-2) than I produce/trade. That way I can make "educated" guesses on what I should trade. Because at the minute, unless I'm missing a report, it seems to be a guessing game.

Judge, try looking at the economy report (the one at the bottom of the map above the relationship bar (if visible)) and it may have the info you are looking for.  Or you might need to do a bit of math but I'm pretty sure there is a report that lists what you are making.  A little math easily tells you what you are consuming.

The last entry on the 'Economy' report tells you how much food was consumed by your population. The 'Supply' report tells how much your troops consume, by type.

Try clicking the stockpile bar, this changes it into a bar that shows expected gain/loss the coming turn for every resource.

Another thing to keep in mind with food surplus is it will frequently be consumed en masse to produce a new population point.  So that makes it really tricky to trade.  You cant really afford to be in the red thinking its safe because you have a surplus because that surplus can be instantly (and automatically) consumed.

Just tried this...and clicking on the Stockpile bar doesn't work for me.

Where exactly is this stockpile bar? If you are on about the Economy/Trade window, then nope. Clicked all over the place (bar, stockpile number, monthly income) and it doesn't change.

I am not really sure how to read the food part though, the top one is my extra food in my stock, but I am not sure what that amount in the bottom snap will really mean (I am not growing 567 more food then I need, and that is not the amount of food I am growing (801))

I think the 567 is what you're producing.  Of that, you'll consume a bunch.  So,the total will actually grow or shrink depending on how many troops and people you have ... and how much you trade.
