Observations/questions

Post by 88l71 »

1. I've got some SEAC HQ (sorry, used to Pacwar here) bombers on the US West Coast. How do you guys usually get 'em to India?

2. You can tell I'm a fan (just look at avatar) but where's the "regular" F6F-5 (not the NF version)? Kinda weird it's not in game since they in fact made more -5 Hellcats than -3's. Also the -5N (where's the -3N??) has the exact same performance in-game, but the -5 in reality had water-injection for the engine and some small streamling upgrades and would be slightly faster/ more maneuverable with the spring tab alierons.

3. Where's the Bearcat/P-51H/P-80, etc and other late-war goodies the US would have had if the war had gone into 1946 as it does in game time? Do any of the mods have stuff like that?

4. Onto the planes thing again, just looking around and the Mustang (IIRC never known as a particularly rugged airplane) has a higher durability rating than the P-40E (P-40's ability to take a pounding remarked on by many pilots) and the F4U-1D has a higher armor/durab rating than the F6F (the plane that gave Grumman the "Iron Works" nickname).....weird....also, just now noticed the B-25J armament doesn't include the additional 4 .50 MG's mounted in the external pods on fuselage sides below the cockpit, and where's the B-25 with the 75mm?

1. Depending on their range, fly them as far as possible (probably Perth) and ship them from there. Depends on the map and whether it's vs. ai or pbem as well.

2. I think AE adds the Hellcat models. Don't know about how they are rated. There's an air thread in the AE section that allows for questions of this type. I think the game is delayed and a kitten killed for each of the questions asked however.

3. Late war goodies shafted for allies in stock. No Meteors, Lancs, acoustic torps, Bat missiles, etc. either. Several mods have expanded or different orbats and weapons systems.

4. See AE.

1. You can island hop them to India/Burma as long as the land bridge through the SRA is still in your possession. You will have op losses along the way. The 7th BG is your trigger bomber group to get others to accept LB-30 bombers.

2-4. Many players, myself included, started with the stock game, but have switched over to the various mods available. You may end up that way eventually.

A gamey solution to the aircraft transfer problem (at least against AI) is to fly them through the USSR via Alaska into China.  They don't intern.

Actually, IIRC this method was used in the real war. It was only aircraft that were unexpected that were interned. Didn't we recently have a discussion on this subject?
