bioed 429 runtime error Active X can't create object

after several years of successful use of bioed in TOAW III, I seem to have done something to hose the environment that bioed expects to run in on my Y2K machine.

The error occurs when I go to import any previously created (by me or by others) equipment .xml file.

There are about 80 bazillion links from google to the runtime 429 error message and the only one I've tried without success is a Microsoft regfix for WIN2k machines -- most of the rest of the links seem to go to useless ad forums.

Problem could be? Broken file association from over-active reg cleaner? Over active Spyware Doctor saving me from malware? Incorrectly installed XML security patch from MS? These are the only known/remembered changes since last successful use in late April.

reinstalled Internet Explorer. That solved the problem.
