Desert Fox MC question

Post by wshu »

Hey all,

Just got and started the Desert Fox MC, and I have to admit, a little confused here and there.

For instance, I played (tried playing?) the "Catch the train!" scenario, but I have no idea how exactly I achieve victory in that scenario. I blew up the train cars and ammo stacks (wow, them durn things blow up real good), and broke the British force morale, but what next?

Do I have to rabbit after the trucks that are fleeing?

Do I have to haul butt (the other word is apparently censored) back to the exit points?

And how many turns do I have, anyway?

If anyone can answer these q's, or better yet, point me at an FAQ or whatever on the MC, I'd much appreciate it.

Thanks,
Winston

To sum it up quickly, get in destroy as much of the train and supplies and then use your exit hexes and get as many of your troops out of the battle quickly. Don't worry about victory hexes as they are of low point value. These order are explained in the mission brief before you start, this is the key to understanding your objective that will reward the most points for any given battle.

If you point your mouse up into the right hand courner of the computer screen where the grafic is for the current wether conditions and leave it there for a few seconds a pop up screan will give you details about the senario and # of turns.

If you look around on the top of the forum page you will see F.A.Q. tab, click on it and you are in the frequently asked questions area. Welcome to Matrix.com. Flee now or never get a full nights rest again:D

Use some of the scouts with satchel charges on them, or send an assault team back to take care of them.

Just pounding them with 37mm AP will not do any good (or bad, depends which way you look at it), unless you manage to immobilize them or kill the main gun, where in both cases the crew will bail most likely to be finished of with MG fire .

And don't forget to use the smoke dischargers ("D" key) on your Pz-II tanks before risking a 2pdr. hit on the more expensive Pz-III .

They sure are, but interestingly enough, I'm having quite a lot of success in taking them out with 20mmL55 guns. Armored Cars, Panzer II's anything will do as long as it mounts a 20mm.

Obviously, you need to shoot at point-blank range (1-2 hexes) and rear shots help a lot, although I have quite a few instances of side shots getting through (not so with those worthless 37mm). Pound the Matilda at range with 37mm's to supress their crew and draw of shots, then rush in for the kill.

The Panzer III's can also kill Matilda's but only with point blank rear shots. (The rear hull armour of the Matilda is its "weak" spot).

Does anyone know if the 20L55 was used to kill Matildas in North Africa (or anywhere else)? Did this gun have APCR rounds in 1941?

The scary part is that its the BEST way to kill Matildas so far in MCNA. But it only works in ambushes or after killing of all the lighter stuff so it can't defend the Matildas in close.

I think that the 20mm on the Mk II and the scout car is more like an autocannon than a main gun, so it fires, I think, a stream of ammo.

That could be why you get better results - there's a better chance to KO a tread with 20 rounds than with 3 or 4 :)
