Web Site minimum Specs

Post by kiwi1404 »

The Web Site lists the following minimum operating requirements

System Requirements:
OS: Windows 95 / 98 /Me / 2000 /XP
DirectX 8.0
Pentium II 400 MHz CPU
64MB Ram
16 Bit Direct Sound Compatible Soundcard
8MB Video Graphics Card
16Bit Color
8x CD-Rom
900 MB Free Hard Drive Space

Matrix's Australian Dealer/reseller is currently advertising the minimum operating requirements as

Pentium 200+
32 Meg Ram
350 Meg Hard drive
4MB Video Graphics card

Which is correct?

I know the web site specs are what's going to be on the box. My guess is that the Australian spec is an older spec and hasn't been updated yet. I do know the game installs on 900 Meg of Hard Drive space.

minimum install

Post by bradfordkay »

Joel, I don't mind a 900mb install, but can you tell whether the music files are part of that minimum install? Since I almost never play the ingame music, this is just wasted space (so if it is part of the minimum install, please reconsider that for future games - it is not a big enough deal to delay the release!) on my hard drive.

thanks, it's a relief to learn that. One of last year's RPG expansions had an 850mb install of which 450mb were music files. I was pretty PO'd....

8MB Video Graphics Card?

Post by Mockingbird »

I understand that the minimum spec's show that an 8MB Video Graphics Card is required.:(

My question is, will it play on a 2.5 MB video card?

In other words what do you think the performance hit will be?

And, will a demo be produced for this game? This would allow me to determine if my setup is sufficient for my use, even if the graphics are slow.

By the way, I've got a notebook that is not practical for me to replace at this time and that's what prompted this question.

Bugger!!!! Another upgrade required. Can any one tell me the best way to convince my wife that this entirely genuine expense is justified?????

Will using a slower processor not run at all?? or will it just run slow and choppy?? I have a PII 233MH, but with 320MB mem and all other bases covered.

I would have to echo Nomad's question? Will it run at all on a PII 350?

Thanks

I have an old 200 with 128 Meg RAM. I just tried UV and it runs on this system, but it is very slow (I am used to running it on a 600). I don't advocate running below specs, but it might be possible.

Just looking around at Pricewatch I found some of the following suggestions: (All USD)

Riva 128 8mb for $10
TNT2 Vanta 16mb for $18
and a steal GeForce2 GTS 32mb DDR for $47

Might even check the local CompUSA or equivalent for one of thier brand cards, you should find something for under $25

As for processors, depending on your current setup, a Duron 800 is going for $31 and a Celeron 400 for $15!!

Going from an MMX Pentium though to one of these would require a new motherboard and probably a case. If you like tinkering (as I do) you might try a kit:

Duron 750, MB, fan, 300w case, and built in sound for $99

Or maybe just a new system:

Duron 750, Windows ME, Mid Twr, 20.0GB HDD, 128MB Mem, 50X CD, FDD, Snd, 8M Video, 56K Modem,2 USB, 10/100 LAN, 120W Spks,KB&MS for $242

And of course the most bang for your buck upgrade around, memory:

128mb SDRAM for $17

Two caveats for online ordering:

1. Make sure shipping is reasonable
2. Use a credit card for protection
