Compared to Jagged Alliance 2 Wildfire?

Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge is a turn-based strategy that puts you command of a squad of specialists for hire in the genre’s biggest game-world yet: the African country Diamond Coast. Diamond Coast is a playground for the cruel and corrupt, each with their own agenda. Choose your friends wisely and buy an army of ruthless mercenaries to unleash mayhem on your foes. Choose “jobs” from different factions and complete them for cash to upgrade your weapons and hire more elite soldiers of fortune.

Compared to Jagged Alliance 2 Wildfire?

Post by LarryP »

I'm a fan of the original Jagged Alliance. I bought JA2 Wildfire a couple years ago and there are many things wrong with it. How does this compare to JA2 and JA2 Wildfire?

didn't play wildfire and JA2 was a while back so i can't make precise comparisons but if you liked JA2 you'll like this. patch 1.07.001 dumbs it down a little for newbie but it's still quite a challenge. if you're last $30 is for food, don't get it but if you've got the free cash, GET IT!

(i'm going to be in carson this satruday [8D])

One of the big problems with JA2 Wildfire is that the three levels of play do not work very well. The "Easy" level is not easy. When you first get dropped off into Arulco (sp?), you have about four opponent guys with shotguns. Very unfair.

I wish I was going to be out of Carson this weekend. [;)] Didn't we talk a while back in the Paradox forums? You lived south of here I believe.

i played the demo for hired guns and it was so hard i didn't keep track of the game as i thought it was only coming out in europe. i spotted it one day on gamespot and looked into it again. as i said, their first patch made it more reasonable game play as you don't get slaughtered and soon as you stick your head up. game is still tough, even on newbie but fun.

i'm from your favorite neighboring state, caleeeeefornya (according to arnold) and we probably talked over at paradox as i have several of their games plus been checking out that east india company trading game coming out end of year. go get an ice cream cone in genoa!

I decided against buying this title. To be honest, I am tired of the long lists of bugs and waiting for patches. This title has a long list.

I haven't been down to Genoa in many years. I stopped eating ice cream years ago too. Enjoy both for me! [;)]

The game feels very much like JA2 but, it lacks some of the details, things have been simplfied in some areas like (no canteens, you don't need a repair kit to fix guns, only one Merc company and store in game, no indoor gun battles where you had to go room by room, no searching for items at the end of battle you just auto loot. But the game does have better graphics, a ton weapons and combat is fun. That said the game seems unfinish at times, looking at files it seems there is stuff that never made it in the final release. I mean if your gona copy JA2 and update it, why leave stuff out?
