Bloody Omaha?

Post by GaryChildress »

I've been practicing up against the AI on the Omaha campaign, hoping to get in shape for my beach encouters against my esteemed opponent Panzerlehr62. So far I haven't even been able to hold my positions against the AI on a single turn!!! [X(] There are two really nice big pillboxes to house ATGs in on one of the maps but they are facing SIDEWAYS from the beach!! [&:] In fact the beaches seem poorly covered by the pillboxes.

Add in naval bombardment and Omaha seems bloodier to the Germans than the Americans. Heck, I understand most people restrict the length of the beach turns to 15 minutes just to make it a remote challenge for the Allies.

Personally I would give the Americans the whole length of the beach to deploy instead of the single boxed in area, and give the Germans better positioned pillboxes. Otherwise it's too much of a cakewalk for the Allied player. Wasn't Omaha supposed to have been a real obstacle to the American soldiers who landed there?

Also I notice my German troops aren't firing from their positions unless I explicitly order them to. They seem to let the Americans run all over the place right smack in front of them without firing a shot at them. I had them set on "Defend" and they just sat there while American teams ran up to their positions and attacked with grenades.

Hello Gary,

You can hold the beaches from me when we cut time down to 15m. I'll work to get better jumping off positions for turn2, but trust me I wont win them on turn 1. Some I will barely make it past the sea wall. There will be a few I do well on, but most you can keep me at bay with your MG's and well placed at-guns. On some you will face only infantry (were i got 3 or less tanks in FP and I dont want to lose them), some beach maps you will face 6 (mainly be used for support, prob only move 2 up on you at most..[:D]

You are being screwed right now with this 1/3 deployments, somethg I had not seen till we started our GC. This is clearly somethg caused by the patch.

Hang In there...[:)]

Gz...

Playing against the AI you should be able to make them pay dearly for advancing.... I'll have to see if I can find a couple of my old screen shots playing against the AI, I had an MG with 60 some kills....

The pillboxes are turned sideways so that the guns can fire along the beach and to provide protection from direct fire from ships.

Agreed, dividing the map in thirds seems to be a bug in beta patch. I don't remember seeing that in the original release of the game...
