Dual Monitors

Post by RocketMan »

Is there a way to get WitP to start on a secondary monitor when using dual monitors?

A little more detail. I am using two widescreen monitors, each with a native resolution of 1900x1200. My current setup is to run WitP on my primary monitor in windowed mode. I set my primary monitor to 1024x768 resolution and leave my secondary monitor at 1900x1200. Unfortunately, a lot of programs default to starting on the primary monitor.

Instead of trying to find out how to make all my other programs default to the secondary monitor it would just be a lot easier to run WitP on the secondary monitor.

EDIT: Yes, I already know about UltraMon but I would like to find a solution that does not require me to buy and/or install any new software.

If you're playing Witp in windows mode, why not just drag it to the secondary monitor?

Moving the WitP window to the other monitor causes the programs video routine to lock up. You can still click on things if you can randomly find them, but the screen never updates.

Gotcha! Didn't consider video. Can't help.

I use dual monitors and love it. I have witp on the primary and tracker, Bodhi's utility and whatnot on the secondary. I use a free utility called MultiMon which places a taskbar on the second monitor. That taskbar shows only those apps that are the secondary.

I use the same setup, although without MultiMon. It is really nice not to have to alt-tab out of WitP to access other programs. Just move your mouse over to the second monitor and start working. Or just look over the stuff you have on the second monitor without having to leave WitP at all. You do have to click back on the Witp window to reactivate it, which is not a big deal.

Constantly having to drag things off the primary monitor (like this comment window for instance) where WitP is running over to the secondary monitor is kind of a drag, although not that big a deal. In fact, I doubt there is a way to get WitP to run on the secondary monitor without installing a third party app or having the program modified (which I know is not going to happen). But I figured there was no harm in asking if somebody had already figured out how to do it.
