Cannot play due to /read only archives"

Post by hugo_slith »

Yesterday I installed the game (in fact, both Wacht am Rhein and The Longest day) and after it, I played normally. But today, when I have tried to play again and I clicked twice in the "autorun" icon, it has appeared a window saying:

"The application directory is read-only"
"Please change the attributes before running Close Combat"

I´m running Windows Vista, and I´m the Administrator.

So, I have checked it. And I have found that the game directory is marked as read-only with a green square. I´ve tried to change it, but even though I unmarked the green square, the problem went on and when looking again the "read-only" option, it was marked again. I have tried with CCE.exe... no way. I have tried with the direct access icon... no way.

No way neither Longest Day nor Wacht am Rhein.

Any suggest? Thanks.

PS: I have also posted this in the "Wacht am Rhein Tech Support forum", as far as it also happens to me with that game. Sorry for that.[:-]

I run it on Vista with UAC on and the default directory is C:\Matrix Games which is safe under Vista and Windows 7. Have you used this or a different path ?
Or it may be something with the Anti Virus product you are using ?

Yeah, I have changed the path. On the other hand, the antivirus I use is Avast!

By the moment, I´m trying the old and reliable trick of uninstalling and installing again. Let´s see...
