What a complete farce

Post by Jonathan Pollard »

Played a battle with a human opponent just now, I was Germans, it was the first battle in the Carentan operation. When I put my men on the bridge, they had green cover but when they were in the cover on the riverbank vegetation they were not green, so I put most of my men on the bridge. I saw his infantry and tank go into deep water. When my mortars hit the water, they made craters instead of splashes. Even my smoke grenade wasn't affected negatively by the water. My opponent said his tank never left shore. I was using the beta patch but I found out after the battle that my opponent was not using it.

Also, he never had troops near the East Bank but it became US-flagged within the first minute of the battle. The objective on top of the bridge became US flagged at the same time but when it happened I had my troops on top of the objective.

When you both used different versions you might get strange results and I hope that the final version will notice/check the versions H2H and deny if they are not the same.

But IMO with regards to the 2 different versions much to much moaning about things that can happen with every program in network if you have 2 different versions.

This is not meant negative even if it sounds like this. I can understand the frustration but to release a beta has also the effect of giving the developer some more feedback so using a beta I suspect strange things to happen. Maybe the title is a bit off regarding the beta patch you're using but then maybe my response may sound to harsh too. Sorry if this is the case.

You would have both been playing with different sized maps... it won't work like that...of course.

Yeah patched and unpatched the difference is at least one megal tile (120 pixels) between different versions of the map.  It was thought that original (smaller) version of the didn't have enough deployment area north of the bridge.

I'm amazed you could play at all

I guess the lesson is not to believe someone if he tells you he has the latest version. He may think he has the latest version.

By the way, he was the host and I was the client, maybe thats how we were able to play.

The extra deployment area was needed.

How is it possible that you can conect with different version? I remember at least with CC3 that such was impossible.

I personally think it would be good if WaR TLD and all other would work the same as this prevents cheating and such scenarios as described by the thread starter.

The exe versions are checked to make sure they are the same.

Data files are downloaded from the host so they do not need to be checked I believe....

Maps based on this are not checked, as they do not have version numbers, or are not downloaded, since they are large....
