Advantages of the "No Finances" Era

Post by KG Erwin »

Yeah, it makes me sound like an "old fogey" traditionalist, but I prefer the pre-1960 era. Sure, there was some team movement, but I simply prefer the smaller 8-team leagues and not having to deal with prima donna free agents. I also like the irregularly-shaped "classic" parks, which adds a bit of character to each city.

Of course, there are the players, who have since become mythologized ("Where Have You Gone, Joe DiMaggio" indeed) [;)].

Personal note: the other thing, which is pyschological, is the fact that I was born in 1957. That was the last year the Brooklyn Dodgers existed. I was born in Southern California, and when my parents came back east, the Dodgers were on the verge of heading west. Ever since I became a baseball fan, I've held a special place in my heart for the Dodgers, even though I now follow the Pirates.

Addendum: I've tried a 1939 association both with finances on and off. Interestingly, with finances ON, I've been unable to pull off the infamous Ted Williams for Vito Tamulis deal. Hmmm... OK, here we go. I've been won over. Show me the money. [:D]
