Money

Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge is a turn-based strategy that puts you command of a squad of specialists for hire in the genre’s biggest game-world yet: the African country Diamond Coast. Diamond Coast is a playground for the cruel and corrupt, each with their own agenda. Choose your friends wisely and buy an army of ruthless mercenaries to unleash mayhem on your foes. Choose “jobs” from different factions and complete them for cash to upgrade your weapons and hire more elite soldiers of fortune.

Money

Post by Anthropoid »

I'm into about day 3 of my campaign playing with 1.08 patch and Foraven's Fine-Tuned-Mod. I am (more or less) working for Janus still, though took the alternate path at Safari by talking to Msfari about meeting Louis at Trainstation (though I have yet to attack there). I've taken Roadblock, Northbase, Safari, North road obviously, Dam, Road to Airport, Coastal Fort, Port, and Crossroads, and I nine of the cheapeast Mercs in three squads of three, although all of them are now up to at least level 4 or 5.

I just defended Crossroads from an attack, and I have about $31k. I got a message that "something is wrong with Dam, it is not paying out very much lately." I stupidly wasted $15K on a 1st Merc Squad at Road to Airport, and now that I've seen that I don't get to actually take control of those guys in a defense

It is only early morning, but I'm afraid I might run out of money, and if I don't capture more before midnight, I don't think I have enough to pay all my Mercs. Without giving me any spoilers, any suggestions on thing I should consider doing to get more money?

If I dismiss a Merc, does he keep the equipment I've put into his Inventory? Can he be rehired later? Will he not like me anymore? Will the gear I leave in his Inventory when I dismiss him come back with him?

This is a great game, but some of the long-term strategy elements and the short-term cost factors do not seem to be in-sync. It seems that six to nine mercs is a pretty minimal number, and if you consider the need to defend flanks probably not even sufficient.
The x-ray is her siren song. My ship cannot resist her long. Nearer to my deadly goal. Until the black hole. Gains control...

IIRC, you only have two sectors that give you money, you need to take the ones that will make you some money (reread your emails from Janus at the beginning, he gives you some hints on what to take)

the mod, jacks the costs up, Jabby is suppost to be a freeby, along with you, it helps to get you started

(I think that part of the mod is wrong, the game had it screwed up to start with, then the mod makes it worse)

oh, and don't worry about your flanks, Crossroads and the port will be the most fought over areas, the enemy moves at midnight, and you will be able to see where they are headed, once you get the airport, it really doesn't matter

yea, forgot, I got hit at the Damn once myself, but normally, once you get going, you have cleared that area out
