Alternative tactic

Post by guctony »

Hello eveybody

being a long player of PAC I again return to it after while. Never played pbem though. I would like to discuss an alternative tactic that would lead to different operational strategies and results.
No where I have seen or read But how would you consider if IJN should reconsider it weakness in terms of CV. One intresting method of multiplying Force factor would be Dividing responsibilities of CV of the task force differently. Say in the second half of the war Before Midway IJN decided that For a decisive action they need action with their BB fleet. without rendering Them to USN dive bombers. The best thing to do in my point of view would be taking a CV and filling it with Figter plane only. and even taking torpedo bomber from other CV's and putting even more Figters.

There will be Three direct effects of this approach I belive. If suprise attained first blow to USN would be more severe in terms of Cap efficiency . Which should force USN to retreat. Thinking with out a cover they are vunerable. Secondly More fighter planes then expected should certanly make enemy reconsider the Foe in terms of it real power. Thirdly I think if you Drop the type of aircraft to One in a certain CV it will mean that Deck operations will go smootly and also you can put more plane then the capacity of the CV Regarding that putting extra plane on the flying deck would make no different in terms of now there is no priorty case of which type of plane to go upstairs from hanger.

Conculusion

Considering A 4 CV taskforce not a invidual force by its smaller pieces. A combined arms team with one is light Cav other is infantry an the other is artillary. instead of trying seek and destroy Defending the Fleet esspecialy BB task force with improved Cap capabity could be intresting.

How would you consider it. If anyone intrested I woud like to make a mod and give it a try in a game.

Best regards

Unfortunately the game itself does not allow any modifications.

You could try using the editor though I'm not sure if the program would process it.

Putting more planes on a CV could work as long the weather is fine.
As soon a storm is coming your plane gets flushed away.

I also doubt that the crews will be able to maintain the additional aircrafts.
There is a limit for a reason.

Changing the composition of the aircrafts on a CV, e.g. more fighters would be most desirable.

However, this game is NOT a simulation able to handle this kind of tactics.

In the companion game released about the same time, Carrier Strike (by Gary Griggsby), you get a more tactical game. You still cannot change the aircraft content on the various aircraft carriers. However, you can send up your unarmed DB and TB as CAP. I found a good US tactic in the first battle or two is to send up all aircraft as CAP. You may loose a carrier or two to Japanese air strikes, but they lose so many aircraft that after that their carriers are pretty useless. THEN you can start sending in your own air strikes, and start getting somewhere.
