especially during a battle? I just see the bar go to complete red and then the ship disappears (I assume the ship is sunk) but then in later turns, I see the same ship appear in combat.

Unless I missed something the reports doesn't really tell you what specific ships were sunk the previous turn for each county.

The disappearing ships on the naval screen are sunk. (yes, it would be nice to have a summary since if you missed to count the units before the start of the battle, and you don't keep carefully track of the individual battle rounds, you won't know the exact casualties if it is a larger battle).

If the same ships reappear they can only be new builds using the same name that has now become free (or it is a technical problem that I have not yet encountered.)

Thanks I was wondering if I was missing something. I didn't know about the unit names being reused again.

BTW I'm not sure then how Britain can be rebuilding so many ships that I have sunk so easily. I'm doing a good job wrecking havoc on the AI capital ships in the Med but seems to me the AI is easily replacing ship losses. Hmmmmm...

If you think it really looks fishy and shouldn't happen based on the income of the UK, you may want to post it in the Tech Support Forum. There is always a chance that there is still a small bug in a newer game. It is always helpful to the developers if you attach the zipped game files (it is a full folder with quite a number of individual files). They are pretty good at resolving these things quickly.
