quitting to desktop, can't access prefs, help! spwaw

Post by hellcat »

I'm running spwaw 7.0 and WindowsMe, I haven't had any trouble with spwaw until now but now when I boot up I am getting the music (which I switched off) and also hex outlines (which were also switched off) if I access the preferences I am immediately dropped out to the desktop...

I did have a bluescreen recently related to VxD stack overflow and am unsure whether this could be connected...

there may be other spwaw play issues but i'm not aware of any yet... I am loathe to reinstall or delete / lose saves as I am 'in the middle of something' but realise I may have to... anyone help ???

am duping this bug post with the general forum as not sure where it should have gone, it's not the vxD issue as have completed the fix for that.... game also hangs (rather than crashing out) if I try to do anything at all 'in game'

Delete the steel.prf file within the MatrixGames\SPWAW\save folder and the holder.txt if you have one. Upgrade to 7.1. This sounds likes the typical steel.prf file corruption. When you restart the game it recreate this file (steel.prf), it is responciable for the rules in which SPWAW plays and reacts which contains all the preference screen settings. Did have the VXD crash while playing SPWAW just curious? Let us know how it goes.
