Very strange surrender

Post by Fintilgin »

So, I conquered Britain and offered peace. They accepted and became the British Union. But they gained a weird stripe of territory that started just east of London, ran straight down through France, across the med, and almost all the way to the south of the map.

I reloaded, tried again, they accepted, remained Great Britain, but still gained a stripe of land cutting down through France. Very weird. Is the surrender event bugged somehow? Hoping for instructions on how to tweak the event file, as I'd like to fix it before I continue the game.

I have a save game where I can repeat this bug every single time (5-6 tries) just by pushing end turn and offering peace.

Isn't that a bug with the British surrender event ? I saw the event engine uses a "hex stripe owner change" , maybe one line is  badly flagged and given to GB rather than Germany ...

I don't think it is a bug at all.  I am sure that the treaty surrender terms are just requiring a stripof territory 50 miles wide be ceded to the UK centered on the Greenwich Meridian!  Churchil is a pretty silly guy!

It is probably a typo in the event. Can I please have the save game?
Then we can fix it even this night or tomorrow.

Thank you!  That seemed to fix the problem.  I assume you no longer want my save game?

Also, it may not be able to be helped, but I did think it interesting that my massive army in England disappeared and could be instantly redeployed anywhere in France/Germany/Poland, but NOT in ceded Edinburgh/Cornwall.  That saved me a lot of production points and time shipping them back.  I guess I can pretend it was all seized British shipping, but perhaps it could be tweaked so in such a case, repatriated units move to the nearest free space (Cornwall/Edinburgh in this case) and only if there is no free space go back to the deployment pool.  Something similar to how the unloading code autoplaces units from sea?

Might not be worth the effort.  But it amuses me that I have to ship a garrison back to Britain.

I am not sure if the original event had this typo or if it was your fix, but when I tried to "pupetize" the UK, I got no response. Upon investigation, I found that the UK forming the British Union was looking for response "2" to their peace overture, not response "1".

I changed it, after saving the old version just in case, and I am about to try again.

EDIT: Yep, that was it all right. I just forced the UK to join the "new order". Anyone wishing to try to "pupetize" the UK should first make sure the event 952 "bad deal" says
<!-- Option 1 in event 271 - events_02_germany.xml
-->
- <expression>
<leftOperand method="Flag.GetValue" param0="271" />
<operator value="equals" />
<rightOperand constValue="1" />
Not constValue="2".

Now, to try my hand at giving out DPs for certain hexes. I feel that, for example, Germans marching past Big Ben would make most minor countries think the Axis was winning, and make nations inclined toward the Axis anxious to get in while they still had bargining power.

I do want to make it clear that I am not knocking your development efforts. Having been involved with software validation efforts in the biopharmaceutical business as the QA guy, I know this is a very tough thing to get right. I also VERY much appreciate you making it accessible so we can modify it!
