ASW TF React?

Just wondering if I am doing this right.

I have 4 DDs in Pearl on "React 6". Does that mean they will leave Pearl to persecute Sub Contacts discovered by Catalinas within 6 hexes of Pearl, or do I actually have to assign them a patrol zone to get them to go after nearby subs?

They react to spotted subs. After 12/7 PH is target rich and I have received many reactions to sightings including leaving their patrol zone.
