German AI fleet handling vs USSR

Post by carnifex »

I'm playing the Barbarossa scenario against the German AI and on the first turn I sent out all my subs into the Baltic and the Black Sea. I formed them into one fleet with mission "regular fleet".

The German AI sent out his surface ships as raiders.

Every turn or so my sub fleet will detect and fight with one or more German raiders. It's now like 20 turns into the game and I've managed to sink 3 German ships in the Baltic and 2 or 3 German Minor ships in the Black sea while taking minimal losses. I've taken no Convoy damage because I don't have any.

Soon the German fleets will be history and all I will have done is incurred a couple of damaged subs.

German naval AI needs a bit of work IMO. They are suiciding their fleet for no gain.

Not too far from historical for the German fleet overall. I agree with the thought that the AI could do better, but if you think anyone in the German High Command gives a rip, well.

PS : U-Boats excepted, of course.
