Elite Units

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Elite Units

Will successful Soviet divisions be promoted to Guards status as in WiR? Will elite units such as Axis SS and Soviet Guards units be given more and better equipment?

Soviet Guards divisions were given an additional 76mm artillery battery beginning in December 1942. SS units received higher quality men and material.

The black SS units in WiR looked very cool. Please give Guards units a distinct color too!!

Some Guard units have different TOEs, so once named Guard they begin to follow Guard TOE and will eventually match the Guard TOE.

Will WitE have amphibious operations? There were several Soviet landings in the Black Sea during the war. The Soviets landed the 318th division on the Kerch peninsula during their Eltigen operation in November 1943. However the bridgehead collapsed within a month.

Mountain troops have some advantages. There are amphibious operations in the Black Sea (by the Soviets).

How about paradrops?  The Soviets had many parachute units but rarely had airborne ops.  The few times they tried it were disasters.

I haven't heard of any significant German paradrops in the East, especially after the costly Crete campaign.

There are paratrooper units for both sides and they may paradrop. in 41 I think there's only 1 German Airborne unit and one air transport division, while the Soviets have a large number of airborne brigades (good but small).
