LRCAP for Submarines

Post by Commander Stormwolf »

Greetings,

It is wished to know if an effect can be obtained from flying LRCAP missions above submarine groups. (if enemy search / ASW attacks can be prevented by the LRCAP). For example to prevent interdiction of japanese submarine supply convoys in 1944 from allied ASW planes.

I do not think LRCAP really works well, if at all, outside of protecting the hex base ( or maybe one next door ) they come from.

Why would you assign CAP to subs? CAP doesnt effect search planes other than an occasional shoot down. Air units dont launch an airstrike against them.

As for LRCAP not being effective, I use it all the time to great effect.

Of course it works well as intended. I was referring to LRCAP being used to cover other areas as you mentioned.

Greetings,

It is wished to apply LRCAP to a force of Sen Toku class submarines
to prevent interdiction by patrol/ASW aircraft. It is wished to know if such interdiction can be mitigated by LRCAP.

I suppose what he meant by saying that LRCAP is not effective is that a reduced number of planes fly LRCAP over a Task Force as compared to LRCAP over a base.

Honestly if you need an LRCAP over a submarine then perhaps best option is to move the submarines AWAY from where they are getting bombed/attacked in the first place. Submarines should not need LRCAP to function at all, in my present game i lost about 25% of my subs sitting off the enemys cost but thats the cost of war.
