Learning Curve & Micro Management

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Learning Curve & Micro Management

How does this compare to WitP, which I could never get into for those two reasons?

that is a HARD one

in places, I would say it is more detail, in others it is more abstrack

the control of the units is much more then WitP, but the supply and stuff like that is handled by the computer/code

soooo

say a bombing raid to Munster, you can plot the alt, the time, who goes, who flies escourt, what alt they fly and at what time they fly, and then work out when you want the bombers over the target (stagger your raids in that area, or have them come in at different times to wear out the defences)(LOL, think that is the same thing, I meant you could stagger the raids, or have a number of raids come in at the same time :)

then if you want new recon, before or after the mission (simi uptodate recon, can really help, you do get info from the raid itself, also)

or if you want to send out sweeps before or after, or during the raid, or not, the times and alts

but, you don't have to ship in supply, or ground crews

and, really, you can make it as HARD as you want or as easy, you can turn everything over to the AI, or just parts of it over to the AI, or, you can control it, but tell the AI what you want to attack, and then let the AI work out the raid/raid groups (which you can then, add or modify what the AI wanted to do)

[you can give the staff a range limit, and then let it plot to the targets you want, you tell it to plot a raid group, it then asks what the target is, it will then plot a raid to that target and any other raids it thinks would be good, so again, Munster, it may plot a recon to Munster, a bombing raid with escourt, and a couple of sweeps to hit the airfields in the area, along with another raid to hit the port at Munster]

and again, it depends on play style, me, I love my pilots, and pamper them, so I like to check in on them, see how they doing, check there kills, and who got lost, or hurt, but... it does not need to be done, if you want to check each squadron for pilots from every Command, every turn, you can, but you can play the game just great without ever looking or checking them

Unit Commanders, you do not have control over them, so no need to spent time, trying to find the best one like in WitP, the code, promotes the next best person, if/when needed {if there are 3 Lt. Col's in a BG who just had there Col shot down, it will pick the best one to promote, if there is only one, he gets it by default}

I think it can be a very HARD game, if you do not know it, or understand it, but once you get to know it, it is 2nd nature (but, I would say the same for WitP, UV, WIP also)

which to that side, what is nice, is you also have BoB in there, BoB40, is a good little campaign, big enough to make you work, but kind of on the easier side, and since the Engine is the same for both, if you can handle BoB, you can handle BTR, BTR is just alot bigger

what can make BTR ruff, is playing the Allies, it is a uphill battle from day one, you are going to get your head handed to you for a while

not sure if any of this is helpful or not, and I have been with the game for so long, I am bias and could play the game in my sleep

if they still up, you may be able to download the manuals for either BoB/BTR, that may give you a better feel for what kind of detail the game plays at and what/if it is what you would enjoy

Thanks for the info Hard Sarge.

I've never played any game in the BTR series but after reading your posts and looking at the game and the 12 o'clock manual I'm really considering it.

Learning curve and micro don't bother me if the game is addictive and fun. It's nice to see you can scale these things in BTR though.

If any game can steal time from my severe AE addiction this may be the one.
