Game won't open

Post by rich12545 »

I guess nobody saw this in the tech support forum so I'm posting here. Any help would be appreciated.

Got it installed fine. But it won't open. Tried double click on the shortcut and also the actual exe file. Double click and nothing happens. Any ideas?

Rich,
Got it installed fine
Which version did you install? What version before that? It was opening ok before last install?

Did you install to the same location as your last version?

I have win xp.  I installed the new free version 175.  I installed it a few months ago and it worked fine and believe I now installed it in the same place.  At that time I uninstalled because of the lack of a full screen but with all the new improvements decided to reinstall now anyway.

EDIT: I just added the beta 5 patch and the game now opens and works just fine. [:D]

I am having the same problem.

I installed the free version 1.75, but when I try to load the game, I get no response. When I control alt delete, the game is showing as running. If I double click on the load game icon a second time, It tells me that the game is already running.

I also downloaded 1.76b, but got the same response.

I use Windows 2000, with ie6

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

I have just installed beta 6. The response is the same.

Incidentally, I tried to open the sc1 and sc2 links, only to discover they were invalid links.

To say I am unimpressed so far would be an understatement. To release a free version of a game at least two years old which seems bug ridden, smacks of poor marketing and programming.

I have heard very good reviews of this game, and am prepared to give one last chance to get this game to work.

As you can probably tell, my patience is wearing thin...

win2000 might be your problem.  Nowadays the earliest should be xp.

Thank you, but the game is supposed to work on 2000.

Not sure what I can do here. Unfortunately, I do not have access to a Windows 2000 machine, so it's tough to tell what it could be. I suggest you try one of the other free Baseball games out there, or come back when you have an upgraded to an O/S that I actively test on. Currently that is XP, Vista and Windows 7.

Sorry it didn't work out for you.

So, what you are saying, is that you haven't even bothered to test the game to see if it works on Windows 2000, despite listing it as working on your official site?

[*]Windows 98/ME/2000/XP
[*]800 MHz CPU
[*]128 MB RAM
[*]32 MB Video Card
[*]Sound Card (Windows compatible)
[*]200 MB free Hard Drive space
[*]DirectX 8+
[*]Internet Explorer 6.0[/ul]
Shocking. Utterly shocking.

You're coming very close to being a troll, if you haven't crossed the line already.

This is a free game.  If it doesn't work on your computer for whatever reason (and the actual problem might not be your o/s), then the polite thing is to just move along.

No offence Rich, but the game wasn't always free. Here's a few questions that the owners of this company might want answers for:

Why are patches still having to be released for a game more than two years old?
Why are there still so many bugs?
Why do some of the links, despite being a couple of days old, not work? (see above)
Why is the game listed as working on Windows 2000, yet it doesn't actually work?
Why wasn't the most recent version leased as the free copy?
Why wasn't the download link updated with the most recent version, as they became available?

I wanted this game to work. I had heard good things about it, and I wanted to see for myself. If the company had bothered to state that it didn't work on Windows 2000, I would not have wasted four hours of my time trying to get the game to work. The fact that I registered here shows the effort I have made on my part. If only the owners and programmers had made the same effort, instead of passing the buck.

The fact of the matter is that the site is misleading. Can you blame me for being angry?

The company could do the decent thing, and remove the broken links, and update the spec required, so that other Windows 2000 users won't waste their time like I have. But that would be too easy, wouldn't it?

I apologize for the trouble, thanks for trying it out. Be sure to stop by again when you upgrade, hopefully you'll be able to enjoy the game then.

The reason you are perceiving the game to be "buggy" is because we are in a beta phase right now. That is a down-side of running a public beta, folks that stumble upon the game tend to get the impression that release versions of the game are buggy, which, in PureSim's history is not the case. I have added hundreds of features to the game since it's release. I am lucky to have a community that understands this and the game is always better because of the testing and public beta phase.

You are not witnessing patching of a 2 year old game, you are witnessing the perpetual improvement and new feature development of a FREE game, where a vibrant community is doing it together. Part of why it's fun is because we have a great community here! If you ever come back I know you'll come around. I am sorry the game does not run on your computer.

Not updating the system requirements was simply and oversight (note they don't mention Vista or Windows 7 either) they are just a little old. I'll see what I can do about getting them updated.

Circle back when/if you upgrade your OS and we'll give it another shot.

See, you're getting excited for nothing.  The game might very well work with win2000 and not work on your computer for some other reason entirely.

All games have bugs, even when they're two years old.  It is to Shaun's credit that he's not only fixing bugs but adding new features even when he's not making a dime anymore.

Links don't work, so what?

The reason I called you a troll isn't because of your questions or frustrations, it's because of your attitude toward a free game.  Not all games work on all computers for different reasons.  If you had paid for the game and it didn't work, you'd have a legitimate complaint.  However, since it's free, you don't.  Just time to move on.
