Newby needs help with supplies and oil

Post by Scotters1 »

I'm the allies with the grand campaign, and I need a little (or maybe a lot) of help on how to start setting up supply taskforces for my bases. (If there is another thread on this please tell me where to go. And yes, I'm reading the manual but I'm not clear on several things.) Here are my questions:

1. I assume that all my supply taskforces should start from San Franscisco. Is this where supplies and oil regenerate?

2. How do I know how big my taskforces should be. For example, a taskforce that will constantly resupply Hawaii, how big should it be, how much oil/ supply does it need to carry? How big should one be going to Australia, Midway, etc?

3. Generally how many destroyers should be in each taskforce to protect it from subs? Are any other types of escort ships needed?

4. Is the auto convoy system working well in AE? (I heard there were problems in the original game) Should I just use that?

5. Once I set up a convoy from say SanFrancisco to Hawaii, will it automatically go back and forth supplying Hawaii. If not, what do I need to do?
6. Do I need seperate task forces for oil and supplies?
7. Anything else I really should know.

1. In the base screen I increased the supply demand for Seattle, San Francisco, and San Diego. In one day they had 100k to 200k more supply available that was shipped to them from the East Coast by rail. LA produces lots of fuel on its own and that's where the Tankers will load up.

I tend to build up several task forces of ships with the same speed and cargo capacity and load them. I set them to "Do Not Unload". Then I pull from these TFs, that have ships already loaded, when creating convoys that will leave port.

4. It works just as well as it did in WITP I never had a problem with it because I managed it I just didn't turn on every base.

It is perfect for NorPac, Midway, Palmyra, Christmas island all of those rear bases like Johnson Island. I put about 10 or so AK's and a handful of TK's on the first setup for the first turn as Allies. They run just fine no problems in pushing 2 months game time and I have added other bases.

For SouthPac I am building up SUVA for a supply dump fuel storage. Once that is done I will have huge convoys from San Fran and LA to suva. This will then be CS'ed to Australia and my other bases with some micromanagement.

We call that a Supply Hub from this hub you send out shits manually or with CS set. At first when I get a large dump of AK's in early Jan I will make super supply runs to Australia with 20AK's or so each. Early in Dec I sent the long range AK's to West Coast USA from Australia so I will have several of these monster task forces for intial supply. By May I will have my hubs and secondary supply hubs built in the South Pacific and will be ready for offensive summer.

One other thing in Early Dec I send every tanker I can find to Java to pull all the fuel out I can and bring it to Perth where it goes out from there. If not even limited Sea Force opes can deplete the fuel in Australia.

I also have a few CS's from Kuwait to Perth for fuel, they get like 15,000 fuel a day in Kuwait so Australia should never go thirsty.

Yes sorry for the Caps on Suva. It is a New Zealand base directly East of Brisbane and a little east of Noumea. You could also dump at Noumea now with the waypoint system., Suva is a habit from WITP because from San Fran to Noumea the supply taskforces would run far too close to Marshalls and get Bettied :)

But I like the idea of Suva it is a big island for the area and has unlimited troop capacity and the abilty to build a 10 Air Field and I think 7 port?
